Plymouth Road Runner 1973 Description
1973 Plymouth Road Runner Pro Street
VIN: RM21P3G266996
The body of this Texas car was media blasted, corrosion-protected with steel phosphate, epoxy-sealed, prepped, and then finished in two-stage Sublime Green base and clear polyurethane paint. Rear-wheel tubs and a 12-point roll-cage were added and exterior body mods include narrowed and tucked front and rear bumpers, a laser-cut Chrysler Pentastar grille and scoop inlays, Halogen head and fog lights, shaved handles with keyless entry, integral front and rear spoilers, and rubber items from Year One.
Powering this beast is a professionally built, balanced, and blueprinted engine by Total Engine of Bloomington, Minnesota, based on a new Mopar 426ci block opened to 446 cubic inches with an Enderle-style scoop on dual Holley 750s atop an Indy 8-71 blower. Other highlights include an Indy 440-1 Max Wedge aluminum head and manifold combo, 81 JE forged pistons, Manley rods, an Eagle forged crank, Comp Cams flat-tappet blower cam, ATI damper and gear drive, MSD ignition, Milodon pan, pump, and windage tray. Dual fans and a BeCool radiator keep it all running cool. Coated TTI headers flow spent gases into dual Flowmasters and a fuel cell with Barry Grant pump provides fuel. Dyno-proven at 820 hp and 690 pounds-feet of torque, the wicked blown engine drives power through a 727 Chrysler transmission built by Pro Trans in California, incorporating all aluminum inside, a Turbo-Action 4,800 stall converter, Hurst ratchet shifter, and remote cooler.
Underpinnings include a new, powder-coated chassis, K-member, and control arms, plus Koni adjustable front and QA1 adjustable rear shocks, a braced Cal Track 4-link, and a Mark Williams narrowed Chrysler rear end with chromoly drive and axle shafts, and Richmond 3.911 gears on an MW spool. Brakes are MW 4-wheel discs, with dual calipers at the rear, plus a new master cylinder with line-lock and all-new lines. Wheels are Boyd Coddington billet-type polished aluminum units, measuring 189 inches front and 2014 inches rear, surrounded by Mickey Thompson rubber.
The Road Runner's interior is new, featuring black custom panels and carpeting with grey velour/black leather bucket seats, AutoMeter gauges, legal seat belts, and power windows. Other outstanding updates include dual batteries, Painless wiring, new glass, and LED tail lights. Given its great presence and looks, this Road Runner was selected as a Feature car at the Mopars at the Mansion show, held at the storied Playboy Mansion, and it was a cover subject and centerfold feature car in Mopar Collector's Guide magazine.
A Mopar Collector's Guide Magazine, Dyno Sheet and nicely organized & laminated binder full of receipts and invoices from the build are included in the sale!
