Plymouth Satellite 1969 Description

This is a one of a kind Muscle Car!
The Plymouth Sport Satellite was the Premium version of the car sold as the Road Runner. The Big Block Sport Satellite was supposed to be the "Family mans muscle car". And that's how I eventually ended up with a 440 CID Big Block RB Mopar, running through an A727, shifting on the floor through a center console but dragging along a 3rd row rear facing seat with kids hanging on for dear life. It's a Roadrunner Station Wagon! The Sport Satellite shared the same chassis, most body panels and drive train as the Roadrunner but had more options, like in this cars case, the full 9 passenger station wagon treatment including the rearward facing the third row seat and power steering.
I have been working on it for the last 7 years but I cant keep doing it due to outside circumstances so I have to let it go before I have had a chance to finish it completely. It runs great and is reliable, but it still need the interior done, otherwise it is in great shape. Since it has lived it's entire life in the western states, it is one of the few remaining Mopars that doesn't have any significant body or floorboard rot.

It really needs interior door panels, headliner, door hardware & rubber etc... Dash electronics are hit and miss, speedo works, odometer works, fuel gauge works, OEM temp gauge doesn't, and rear window switch doesn't work on the dash, works at the gate only. No heater control because stuff was disconnected under the dash at some point. Radio doesn't work at all.
OVERALLThis is a NOT a numbers matching car and it's not anything like perfect, nor will it ever be. It still needs lots of work but it's a fun muscle car that gets all sorts of looks and that you can pile the kids in and go get ice cream on the weekend. It has many mismatched parts that would drive a Mopar stickler insane but it looks greats and is fun, that's the point. And it does smoky burnouts. That's the other point. It's the perfect "Family" project car.
WHATS THE BIGGEST PROBLEM WITH THE CAR RIGHT NOW ???On startup, when the motor is cold and running rough, the driver side header knocks against the torsion bar, making an annoying racket. Once the engine warms up and runs normal, it stops. The header needs to be removed and the offending area "persuaded" to give the bar some clearance.
IS THAT IT?Not hardly. While it does have a pretty healthy 440 in it, all it has to stop you is 4 wheel manual drum brakes. I really recommend upgrading those things. It also has a little more body roll in the turns than I would like, and by a little, I mean "holy crap were gonna tip over" levels of body roll that were apparently acceptable in the late 60's. If you are thinking about summer cruises to the beach over Decker then I would invest in at least one good anti-roll bar to keep everything fun and not so "white knuckle".
It also needs a repair on the right rear door where the door latch mounting holes are cracking and allowing the mechanism to move. I believe it can be repaired fairly easily but I haven't done it. See pics.
