Plymouth Barracuda 1969 Description
1969 Barracuda, 'cuda, CUDA 440 special or m code 'cuda call it what you want it all boils down to the biggest cubic inch motor in the lightest car for 1969 in the Plymouth lineup. It took some thinking, a few special parts and a big shoehorn to fit this massive motor down into such a small car. Here are a few facts about these cars. They were scheduled to be built as 'cuda 383s by the Hamtramck plant then were specially handled through the "fleet build process" and then built as 440 'cudas . All were powered by the same Plymouth 440 Super Commando engine that was rated at 375 hp and 480ft-lbs of torque with the only transmission available was the A727B Torqueflite automatic with either theSure-Grip3:55 or 3:91 gear inside of the 8 3/4 rear axle. 10 inch drum brakes were the only ones available for this car. Two special parts unique to the 440 'cudas as well as the 69 440 Dodge darts were the left side exhaust manifold and the left side motor mount because of the 440 being taller and wider than the 383 it was being replaced with. They came with the same 12 month 12,000 mile warranty that the Hemi cars came with. 358 were built with 292 of them being fastbacks 9 were painted in the r6 Scorch red and this is the only one listed in the registry with a complete r6 Scorch red interior.
This fresh off the rotisserie restoration still retains all of the factory 440 'cuda parts it left the factory with. And has been restored back to as close to original as possible with the best NOS, used original or aftermarket parts available today. Just a few of the notables who had a hand in restoringand supplying parts for the car were Scott Smith from Harms Auto did an outstanding job with the carburetor, Rick at Dixie Restoration completely restored the alternator, Scott at Koffels Place home of the B1 head took care of going thru the engine,Tony's Parts for supplying the finest NOS parts, Halls interior recovered the seats with Legendaryseat covers, Accurate Exhaust built the factory style replacement exhaust and the metal replacement, bodywork, paint, component restoration and assembly was completed by my crew and myself.
Thecar came from the factory as you see it todaywith the r6 redexterior and r6 red interior andas far as I know it is the only one built witha complete red interior and matching red exterior. Thecar has been sitting since1972 when the original owner passed away and has only been driven a very few miles to make sure all components are working properly since completion and has been a local car within 30 milesfrom where it was purchased new in 1969.
The entire underside was blasted and recoated with the correct factory grey dip and the factory style of undercoating was applied to the wheel wells as it was from the factory with products from resto rick.
