Plymouth Other 1949 Description

Fuzzy Dice Autos

Is proud to represent this very special piece of early American history. A post war 1949 Plymouth Deluxe Special convertible in survivor condition!

This is the history of the family owned classic:

Parents bought the car brand new from a Pennsylvania new car dealer for their daughter’s sixteenth birthday. The car remained in the family for 66 years making the birthday child if she were still with us 82 years old. She drove it fairly often taking short trips back then but almost never in her later years. It was always garaged kept and lovingly cared for. Only 20,761 actual miles are recorded on the working odometer. There’s even a service sticker on the driver’s door showing the oil was changed at 11,740 miles. I would estimated that the service was done sometime in the late eighties, arly nineties at a Cadillac-Buick dealership in Gettysburg, ennsylvania.

The only thing that’s not original to the car is a repaint done thirty years ago and most likely the convertible canvass top. The color, lymouth Cream, as matched to its original finish. The paint is indicative to that of a thirty year old repaint. It’s pretty much in the driver quality category. The finish is acceptable and if I owned it I’d leave it just the way it is. Needless to say a brand new repaint would bring her to the next level. Having said that there are age blemishes and some areas where the paint is peeling. But no rust or body filler anywhere.

The car shows beautiful original chrome throughout. No pitting anywhere. The all around glass, heels and wheel covers are in great condition. The windows go up and down with ease and the fits are excellent. The wide white bias tires are in great shape. The under carriage is also rust and damage free. The doors slam with a touch of a finger.

The older convertible original rag top is in very good condition. The rear plastic window shows some ageing and is a bit cloudy. The photos will show on the passenger side rear where two snap fasteners are missing. The power top is fully functional and goes up and down with ease.

Except for a brand new fitted carpet, he interior is all original and in very acceptable condition. The seats, oor panels, ash, oor and window handles and gauge package are all in wonderful and in working order. The original radio does turn on but only static comes through.

The older convertible canvass top is also in great condition. There is a problem however with the power top that we’re trying to remedy but it does go up and down manually. All the lights, eater, ipers, urn signals and horn work as they should.

The original 217.8 ci inline motor runs strong, mokeless and quiet. A brand new 6 volt battery was just installed. She starts right up on the first turn. The three speed transmission shifts smoothly through all the gears and the clutch engages as it should.

I was amazed how well the old Plymouth handled. She drove strong, ight and stopped on a dime.

This is a car that needs to be seen and driven. We sell many classics here at Fuzzy Dice and I rarely if ever fall in love with any of them. But this one’s a different story. It’s upside down bathtub styling and custom lines to me are both classic and beautiful.

These post war classics are becoming the people’s choice in the collector world. The convertibles are almost impossible to find without paying outrageous prices. This beauty can be bought at what we feel is a very reasonable price.

We anticipate lots of interest in this car and we are more than willing to answer any of your inquiries.

Best of luck bidding!
