Plymouth Road Runner 1969 Description
NO RESERVE AUCTION!!!!!
THE ICONIC 1969 PLYMOUTH ROADRUNNER
Car & Driver's "Vehicle of the Year" for 1969.
BARN FIND!!!!!
NO RESERVE AUCTION!!!!!
Up for Auction is a Barn Find, 969, itamin C, urst 4 speed equipped, s, b, 96 Air Grabber, 83 big block, rue (RM code) Plymouth Roadrunner!
The listed vehicle was discovered in a barn (concrete floor) in southwest Missouri where it had not been outside in years.
I have NOT cleaned the vehicle.
I will give a detailed description of the vehicle below. Please inspect ALL of the photographs and, f needed, o not hesitate to contact me with questions or requests for additional photos. I (admittedly) am one PICKY individual. I would rather give you a description and have you pleasantly surprised than the alternative. How much is it worth? The bidders will decide on this one. NO RESERVE!!!!
EXTERIOR: Finished in the knockout Vitamin C Orange with the killer lookingflat black stripes. The 17" Cragarwheels really set it off. The body looks good. Obviously, t would benefit from a cleaning and buff job. The front fenders are good. The hood and roof looks nice, runk looksgood, oors are straight and close well. The door jambs look nice. The rear quarters look alrightbut when you crawl under the car and look at the bottom lip (not noticeable driving the vehicle) yousee what I consider to be a "shotty" finish job. I personally would have sandedthem glass smooth prior to the additional work and paint being performed. The trunk areaappears nice and is full of parts including NEW full length Hedman Headers for the 383 and the N96 Air Grabber assembly. The front windshield and trim look good. The rear window trim looks nice but I notice in the lower left (driver) corner where the gaps are not consistent/proper. There is NO rust but I feel that body work was performed and that the area was just not "spot on".The paint job performed was"driver quality". Presentable, ut definitely NOT perfect. It is missing the emblems (might be in the parts...might not). The chrome bumpers andtrim pieces look good and could benefit from some polish.
UNDERCARRIAGE: The car is very nice underneath. The frame rails are all clean. This vehicle does not appear to have been driven in any inclement weather. Please inspect the photographs.
INTERIOR: The previous owner said that the black interior was new original style from Classic Industries. The front bench seat looks nice with no rips, ears, tc. The door panels are super nice. The dash pad has NO cracks! The gauges all appear to be visually nice. The speedometer is locked on 80 (sitting still-LOL). The trim under the rear window needs to be installed. The back seat has been recovered in original OEM material (vinyl). The steering wheel needsa horn assembly and buttoninstalled (The iconic roadrunner horn is still present underneath the hood). It has an aftermarket radio in the dash. The carpets are nice and black. The drivers side door panel needs to be installed along with the driver's side glass (present but not installed). This assembly seems to be missing some pieces (unknown-might be with all the parts) to properly crank the driver's window up and down. All glass on this vehicle is present and free from cracks. The vehicle is a bench seat model with a floor shift Hurst four speed (no console).
ENGINE COMPARTMENT: Taking into consideration that the vehicle had been sitting for some time, he engine compartment looks clean. There appears to be NO rot on the radiator supports or any lower extremities. The area is painted and the big block 383 shows well. The fender tag is not present. The engine block has been identified as one from a 1971 Plymouth Satellite (stamped E383 58 on one side and 20571 on the other). The engine bay is filled withvisible performance upgrades. These includean MSD 6AL ignition box, SD Blaster 2 coil, SD Pro-Billet Distributor, nd anaftermarket intake manifold and carburetor.A high capacity Moroso oil pan is observed underneath.
MECHANICAL: While I have not driven the car, hemotor fires up and will drive. The gentleman that I purchased the RR from said that the engine had just been rebuilt (less than 100 miles) and that the clutch assembly was new.The clutch feels super stiff, ike the pressure plates were burned up.The engine will run off of a small auxiliary tank of gasoline. Due to the tenure that the vehicle was sitting, would drop the tank, rain it and see what you have. The same goes for a general tune-up,new tires, rakes, tc. This vehicle could be a nice winter project that you can reap the benefits come spring.
TRUNK: Opens and shuts with no problems. Gaps are good. The inside area ispresentable with the proper plaid material. The trunk is full of parts including the N96 Air Grabber assembly and a brand new set of black full length Hedman headers. See Photographs.
PAYMENT:A nonrefundable depositof $500.00 through Pay Pal is due within24 hours from the end of this auction. The remaining balance is due withinseven days from the end of this auction. I will accept a cashier's check, ank check, ire transfer, ash, tc. The vehicle will NOT leave my possession prior to your mode of payment clearing my financial institution.I have a clear Missouri title in hand.
SHIPPING: This is solely the responsibility of thewinning bidder. I willdo what it takes to make the vehicle available for your pickup and/or coordinate with thetransportation company of your choice.I'm pretty easy to deal with (please see my feedback with other vehicles involved).
It should go without stating but due to the age of the vehicle NO WARRANTY is expressed or implied.
On this NO RESERVE AUCTION, he top bidder takes it home!
Good luck to all.
**UPDATE**
- On 11-17-2015, placed the Roadrunner on a lift and was able to inspect it. Here's what I have found. The motor block numbers observed were "2468130 4 23 69" on the drivers side. The block is a 1969 block, ot 1971 as stated earlier in my description. The hump on the interior floorboard is present, ndicating that thisis a true four speed car. The dustshield is missing underneath. The clutch is stiff probably because the bolts holding onto the flywheelwere incorrect. The cars brake rotors are rusty (due to sitting). The car does have power steering butDOES NOT have power brakes. Sorry.
The interior is still nice. The front bench seat has two small tearsapproximately 1/4 inch in length. It looks like it would be a simple vinyl patch job. The interior kit was obviously newand the headliner looks pretty good as well. The gauges looks crisp, nobs are newer, tc.
I was able to install the driver's side window glass. The will still need to be redone but it will keep the weather out of the vehicle for shipping purposes.
I also can honestly say that if a person was going to restore this car, ery nice to start with frame wise. The trunk pan has a little rot on the underside, bserved not from the trunk but, rom small areas on both sides above the gas tank. The car will eventually need quarters, ocker panels and maybe a front passenger fender to be perfect. The car looks very presentable now, ut I observed there to be glass in these areas that were not observed before. The "shotty" areas that I mentioned earlier are these. If a rotisserie restoration is desired, ood deal. If a quick cruise vehicle that looks slick at 10 feet is warranted, reat. I just want to be as honest as possible.
As you all know, his is still an awesome find and will make a great ride.
Thank you and good luck.
