Among all the muscle cars. the Goat somehow transcends brand loyalty. and you'll probably find that both Ford and Mopar guys are in love with GM's first muscle car. This 1967 Pontiac Lemans is a convincing GTO tribute. offering all the flavor and fun of the real McCoy without the oversized price tag. This Lemans was original code T Montego cream. but at some point it was disassembled and thoroughly repainted in its current Regimental Red. and as a result it looks every bit of Pontiac's combination of luxury and muscle. Few other brands ever matched that combination and none of them added the performance punch of Pontiac's 400 cubic inch V8. We don't know when the work was done. but it was quite a while ago. so the car has a mellow. comfortable look that shows well at casual events and looks great going down the street. Those big quarter panels are laser-straight. door gaps are precise. especially for a convertible. and the hood fits flush. It's a convincing tribute. too. with correct GTO badges. those unique mesh grilles up front. and a hood tach for just the right performance vibe. The only way anyone is going to know this one isn't a real-deal Goat is by checking the cowl tag. The black bucket seat interior has been restored to factory specs as well. offering correct seat covers with new foam underneath. new carpets. reproduction door panels. and lots of factory options. A center console houses a Hurst "his-n-hers" shifter for the TH400 3-speed automatic transmission. there's an under-dash A/C unit that looks period-correct and uses modern hardware for functionality. The woodgrained dash might be original. as are the gauges. which speaks to how nice this car really is. and correct GTO emblems have been installed here. too. . The original AM radio has been dumped in favor of a newer AM/FM/cassette head unit and there's a rather rare tilt steering column. unusual in a GTO and totally unheard-of in a Lemans. Overhead. there's a nice-fitting black power top that stows itself easily and it's in good shape. too. The trunk may very well be original. and if that's the case. it's truly remarkable. with only some light discoloration to show for decades of life. The engine is a correct but NOM 400 cubic inch V8. fully rebuilt and dressed to convince everyone they're looking at a real GTO. Correct Pontiac Turquoise paint. chrome valve covers. and a proper trio of air cleaners on the Tri-Power setup are all details Pontiac fans expect. You'll also note everything is in superb condition with very little evidence of use and it drives superbly. Power steering and brakes are included. the hoses are recent. and the A/C system is neatly installed so it's not in the way. The chassis is mostly original. and is in good order although it's not going to be a show car. The recent dual exhaust is appropriate for a high performance Pontiac and it sits on a set of adjustable air shocks so you can fine-tune the rear ride height (that's why it seems low in our photos). Correct Pontiac Rally wheels are fitted and carry 215/75/15 redline radials for just the right bit of '60s flash to complete the illusion. Forget numbers and pedigrees. this is a car that you just get in and enjoy. Sure. a real GTO might make all the tag-checkers nod with approval. but 95% of the population just doesn't care. which is entirely the point of this awesome tribute.
