Under 1. 00 miles. This car is simply amazing as you can imagine. This car was bought by Charles Mertz Jr. of Upper St. Clair. PA back in 1981. There is a weird tale to this car so hold for the story. But is true. You can track down the Mertz family in the Pittsburgh area if you want to for verification. I found the car on ebay in 2003. It was literally a brand new car that was consigned to Tom Henry Chevrolet in Bakerstown. PA so that Charles ( or someone close to him ) could buy a new pick-up truck. People used to buy Camaro’s and Firebird’s all the time and modify them . We all know that so what’s the big deal? However. Charles bought this car new back in 1981. modified it and then parked it in his living room. Yes. I am not kidding you. Inside the living room. Took the wall out and everything. How do I know this? I tried tracking down Charles himself years ago in the Pittsburgh area but ended up speaking with his son about the car. Charles’s son actually told me that his dad bought TWO of these cars. Not just this one. I can’t remember if Charles put BOTH cars in the house or not. I think he might have. Buying a car and modifying it is one thing. But parking it in the house? Well. Ok. I was able to get some pictures of the modifications and they are on the birdbunker. com site for you to see. Have a look at it. They were simple engine bolt on mods and some dumb side pipes. When I bought the car. I took all of the modifications off of the car and put all the stock factory stuff back on. Even though Charles put side pipes on the car. the only thing he changed was the “Y” pipe from the engine and he left the original exhaust hanging in place. I got a new “Y” pipe and re-hooked back up the original exhaust. It’s all still there to this day. In 12 years. I don’t think that I even put 200 miles on the car. I would just mostly park it outside and let it run out of gas to keep the fuel fresh. You are dealing with a super honest seller here. In the engine compartment. I do think there are a couple of minor pollution control items missing but I am not sure what they are. True Trans Am guys out there that know the 1981 Chevy 305 engine “get up” will know what they are and I am sure it is nothing much to put them back on if you had to. The car runs perfectly fine so I never bothered with the missing items. You can ignore them too if you want. The only other thing to do is the door handle on the drivers side has popped out of the forward grommet but that can be fixed. Other than that. this is a brand new under 1. 00 mile car that looks. smells and drives like it is brand new. That is because it is new. This car along with the 1980 White on Blue I have are realistically new cars. They have to be seen to be appreciated. Pictures do not do this car justice as the car has not been washed in a long time. Needs a really good bath. Paint is perfect. Under the hood? Like new Glass? Like new. Underside of car? Like new. Interior? Like new. This is about as new a car as you will get. And its 33 years old. Yes. I know that it is a small block Chevy stuck into a Pontiac Firebird. If you wanted a 4-Speed Trans Am in 1981. a small block 305 Chevy was your only choice. No one ever said that General Motors was the smartest company in the world. Yes. I know these were not the fastest cars in the world. It’s a Trans Am from 1981 that I put back to perfect stock because I am a car purist. What can I tell you? It goes what it does. Yes. This is the last year of the 2nd Gen ( good looking ) Trans Ams. GM destroyed them in my personal opinion in 1982. This is as close to a perfect 1981 Trans Am you will find anywhere in the country. Bar none. The car should have a tune up. It fires right up and runs great but I think it is due for a tune up. Likely the original plugs but I did not check. If you are looking for a new 1981 Trans Am. This is it. This is. a brand new 33 year old car. Enjoy the pics and the video. This car will end up in a collection somewhere that covets museum pcs and that is exactly what this car is. Another museum pc. Contact Information Call or email me ( John Shaw ) about the cars.
