Pontiac Grand Prix 1967 Description

1967 Pontiac Grand Prix 428 Convertible A magnificent highly original and extremely rare example of this one-year only G/P.

The concept of Pontiac’s Grand Prix was a high-powered personal car like the Ford Thunderbird. But instead of being more relaxed like the T-Bird the Grand Prix had a V8 shared with the legendary GTO plus Morrokide Strato bucket seats a center console full instruments and dual exhausts to complete the package. The Grand Prix always featured a distinctive grille and taillights plus carpeting covering the floor and lower door panels. The center console-mounted transmission shifter included a storage compartment and matched the wood grain of the dash. The rear bench seat included a center fold-down armrest and a speaker grille that could be made functional with the extra-cost Bi-Phonic rear speaker. Other deluxe trim included a padded instrument panel deluxe steering wheel courtesy lights and many other luxury features.Dramatic new styling along with the addition of a new Grand Prix convertible distinguished the 1967 Grand Prix. New to the G/P for 1967 were concealed headlights with horizontal mounting (all other full-size '67 Pontiacs retained the vertical headlights) a full-width front bumper framing the lower half of the grille concealed windshield wipers rear fender skirts plus out back were louvered taillights similar to those found on the legendary ’67 GTO. Its redesigned sheetmetal with a more rounded rear quarter panel shape set the trend for the next several years of GM styling. Turn signals were blended into the fender caps via three subtle slits that have become the trademark exclusively of the 67 G/P.

Under the hood the high performance 421 V8 was replaced by a new 428 cu in (7.0 liter) V8 with four-barrel carburetor with various internal improvements including bigger valves and improved breathing capabilities. This optional 428 cu in (7.0 l) V8s received a higher power rating of 360 hp.New safety features for this year included a dual master-cylinder braking system and an energy-absorbing collapsible steering column. The magnificent Aluminum Wheel (“8 lugs”) option prevailed The Grand Prix convertible would be for one-year; only 5856 were built which makes them quite collectible today. Considering how few were built with the 428 option the 428 G/P is very significant rare car indeed.A large part of this G/P’s appeal is that it is largely an unrestored car! It obviously must have been painted to look this good but the interior is original including seats door panels headliner dashpad etc. and looks fantastic. The engine compartment is detailed and correct and all the equipment matches the PHS documents.That optional equipment includes power steering power brakes AM/FM stereo radio with power antenna and rear speaker selector 8-lug wheels handling package etc.This car also features the Rallye Instruments within the dashboard display remote trunk release power antenna and more. An MP3 Digital Audio system has been discreetly installed within the console so there is not evidence of it whatsoever; yet you canlistenthe modern way in your retro convertible. But the roar of the 360hp 428 (GTO-like in acceleration) is all you probably need to hear (and feel). The condition can only be described as phenomenal. It runs drives and looks as new and would take a trophy at any show. It is certainly Best in Class but in reality it is in a class by itself.

Full-size muscle is a unique driving experience.Car history tellsus these are the only real muscle cars: full size cars with giant engines.
