Pontiac Fiero 1986 Description

No Reserve! Overview

This is the 1986 Pontiac Fiero GT Fastback with 2.8L V6 engine and automatic transmission. Heat is hot, /C is cold and was converted to environmentally-friendly R-134a refrigerant in 2005. Power windows work. Power lock solenoids work, ut lock assembly is stiff and needs to be cleaned and lubricated. AM/FM stereo cassette player works. Headlight actuators are original and still work. Removable sunroof. Smoke free, nly two owners, lways kept in garage (dealer from whom I purchased the car also documents car was kept in garage by previous owner). Everything factory installed. Only driven in summer. Complete maintenance records since I purchased the car in 1995 at 47,000 miles are included. Title in hand. The car has been well maintained and well cared for.

Additional photographs and a couple of video clips are available on-line at my personal website.

Cosmetics

I believe this car to be in good cosmetic condition, onsidering this car is nearly 30 years old! Issues include numerous small paint chips to the nose fairing and hood, s well as three spots of spiderweb cracks in the paint, wo on the front and one on the rear bumper (see photos for documentation). There is also a very small chip in the windshield, igh on the drivers side. This chip happened before I purchased the car, nd was professionally repaired and sealed (see photos for documentation). Also, he gray paint along the bottom fairing on both sides is flaking off where it wraps from vertical to horizontal (see photos for documentation). The headliner is still in good shape with minimal sagging. The glove box at the rear of the center console is cracked, lthough the box opens and closes properly and functions normally.

The center console trim plate and ashtray covers shows some scuffs from the previous owner, ut the vinyl edge is still tight to the plate and isn't curling. There is some fading of the orange plastic that indicates current transmission gear, ut it doesn't interfere with operation or readability. The rocker buttons for both power windows and for the rear deck release are a bit dirty and discolored (see photographs for documentation). The center stack trim plate is cracked at the top left corner (see photos for documentation) and has been from the time I purchased the car. All of the gauges work and illuminate properly. The upholstery, arpeting, nd dash are all in good shape, o cuts or holes. I recently replaced the steering wheel myself with a used OEM part, ecause the padding under the leather was deteriorating.

I've tried my best to document all of the significant cosmetic flaws in the photographs. Please study them carefully, nd please feel free to ask any questions for additional clarification.

Mechanical

I'm not a mechanic, o I've had to rely on other mechanics to determine what condition the car is in. I installed a brand new battery last weekend, nd it starts promptly and reliably every time (see this video clip). It's a pleasure to drive, perates smoothly. Brakes are in good condition. Fieros are known for those troublesome headlight actuators; both are functioning on this car (for demo of headlights and all other running lights, ee this video clip), ut be aware that to the best of my knowledge they are both the factory originals from 1996. Cruise control works, s do turn signals and brake lights.

Minor service, ike oil changes, 've occasionally had done at Goodyear Gemini service centers. All other minor service and major mechanical and cosmetic service has been performed by my local GM dealership. All service records since I've owned the car are included with the car. The most recent service was performed in September of 2012. At that time, he following were performed.

  • Battery replaced
  • Coolant temp sensor replaced
  • Temperature guage repaired
  • Door weatherstripping replaced
  • Tires inspected (OK)
  • Lube, il, ilter
  • Resurface font and rear roters and deglazed all pad linings
  • Inspected tie rods; replaced passenger inner tie rod
  • Complete alignment
  • Replaced air filter
  • Trasmission and oil pan gaskets replaced, leaned, ested
  • A/C system O-rings replaced, ystem recharged and leak-tested
  • New wiper blades and rubber inserts
  • Full inspection, ront to rear

Since the above repairs were performed on 9/7/2012, he car has been kept in a garage and driven only 161 miles. In that time, installed a new (used OEM) leather-wrapped steering wheel and a new battery.

Other

Also included are the original owner's manual, wo sets of keys, he Helm Automotive repair manual, nd a spare set of new (old stock) gauges for the gauge pod on top of the center stack (I purchased these gauges before I realized that my local deanship was going to be able to repair the coolant gauge at the last service appointment). I'm also including a special steel seat belt buckle that was ordered through a dealship specifically so that modern child safety seats can be safely used with the "window shade" seat belt tensioners used by GM during the 80s.

Please don't hesitate to e-mail any questions you may have--I want the buyer to be totally satisfied with this purchase. I've loved this car the entire time I've owned it, nd I would like it to go to someone who truly appreciates what a unique piece of automotive history is represented by the Fiero.
