Pontiac Firebird 1976 Description

Up for auction at a LOW RESERVE; My exceptional 1976 PONTIAC TRANS AM . This is a FACTORY BLACK w/Black DELUXE interior 400 car that has always been a SOUTHERN CAR. It was in good overall condition till I felt I had to do a few “upgrades” and ended up in a COMPLETE general restoration in the end. The car was totally blown apart including the removal of the sub frame/front suspension/interior/etc/etc.

First the engine was replaced with a FRESH 455 designed to run comfortably on PUMP GAS. This is a fully balanced 455 .030 short block consisting of ICON forged pistons Total seal rings lightweight pins H beam Butler rods factory nodular crank & billet 9 position timing chain. The camshaft is a RA IV that has been degreed for accuracy.

The cylinder heads are #96 1971 castings that have been pocket ported with cleaned up bowls/etc. A 3 angle valve job with stainless valves and good quality Comp springs were installed. Engine has a flow cooler water pump EDELBROCK 750 carb that has been carefully tuned for this application EDELBROCK Performer intake Comp cams roller tip rockers and HOOKER 4 tube headers round out the approach. The car also has a HD aluminum radiator and has the best manners you could ask for NO overheating BS that can be an issue with a big cubic inch Pontiacs on the street w/traffic/etc. REMEMBER this car was planned to be DRIVEN…

The transmission is a HD TURBO 400 unit with an 11” converter and HD valve body shift kit. The rear end is a rebuilt 8.5 10 bolt POSI with 2.73 gears. This car will comfortably run at 70+ MPH with this combination with excellent torque overall. If you want to really scare yourself you could change the rear gear to a 3.23 – 3.55 and burn the tires right off the car! The suspension is totally rebuilt and been upgraded to a full factory WS-6 setup w/Monroe Gas shocks all new stainless steel lines stainless steel braided flex lines new brakes calipers/etc. All bushings are poly graphite quality components.

The body was in generally good condition and any slight issues of note were performed in METAL. The car was totally stripped epoxy primed and painted in Black basecoat/clear coat then wet sanded and buffed. I installed a Factory Black /Gold SE stripe kit as a PERSONAL PREFERENCE as well as the 1975 Grilles which I feel look waay better than the 76 grilles. This car is AS CLEAN underneath as the top side and offers a level of detail not commonly found on a car in this price range. The options on the car are somewhat base and included TILT WHEEL/ Deluxe interior and A/C. The interior has all been replaced and has the DELUXE seats that are a big improvement over the standard seats. The side glass/windshield have been replaced and of course all new weather strips and seals were installed. The A/C compressor is not currently on the car but all is included. The Evaporator/heater core/condenser are serviced and ready to go.

Again since the car was built to be driven i upgraded the wheels to YEAR ONE 17” HONEYCOMB Aluminum wheels with KUMHO 275 /40 X 17 (front) and 285 /40 17 rear tires. I have driven this car several hundred miles and would trust it anywhere. I am only selling it because of new interests at this point in time. This is not some fluffed over POS but a carefully planned and executed DRIVERS CAR.
