Pontiac Firebird 1969 Description
This pretty 1969 Pontiac Firebird is exactly the kind of car that correctly answers all of a potential buyer's most important questions. First it is indeed a dry desert car with great bones. Second it is heavily documented with ownership records PHS documents and restoration receipts. And finally it hasn't been dressed up as a fake anything-it's a real-deal V8 Firebird that simply looks awesome. One glance at the cowl tag and you'll know that this Firebird is wearing a correct and recent coat of code 52 Matador Red. It's not orange like the Carousel Red found on the GTO but rather a very pure vivid red that is exactly the right color for the sporty F-body. It spent the first 32 years of its life (1969-2001) in Arizona then moved to Temecula California for a few more years before ending up in Missouri. As a result it's impressively clean inside and out with none of the issues that plague cars that lived in harsher climates. The paint is fresh and the steel underneath was properly prepped and finished so it looks fantastic particularly for such an affordable car. To many the Firebird is more appealing than the Camaro simply because of the little things ranging from the chrome grille set into the front end to the gills in the front fenders to the trick Firebird logo side-marker lamps in the quarters. Add in a shiny rear bumper that beautiful stock hood that looks particularly amazing from overhead and no wing on the back and you have one great-looking hardtop. The Pontiac difference continues inside where there's a delightfully upscale black bucket seat interior. The seats are highly textured reproductions that look great and the door panels are simply too nice to be original. The fat steering wheel is obviously an aftermarket piece but somehow it looks exactly right in the sporty Firebird's interior. Original gauges are perhaps showing their age but they don't distract from the driving experience one bit. A digital AM/FM stereo radio improves on-board entertainment a bit but the sound system isn't why you're buying this car anyway. The real reason is under the skin and one glance in the trunk will prove this car's California pedigree. Originally equipped with a 350 there's now a proper 400 cubic inch Pontiac V8 under that pointed hood fully detailed like the factory would have done it. Freshly rebuilt Edelbrock supplied the intake and carburetor and the rest was slathered in Pontiac Turquoise paint and topped with chrome valve covers for a racy 1969 look. According to the build sheet power steering was original equipment but the power brakes and new master cylinder were added during the build. They also added disc brakes to the rear giving this Firebird plenty of stopping power with the beefy 400CI under the hood. A TH350 3-speed automatic was rebuilt and stuffed in behind the burly 400 and with 3.55 gears out back it's formidable on the street but an easy cruiser on the highway. A new 3-inch exhaust system with Flowmasters sounds like Valhalla on Saturday night and those gorgeous 16-inch Torque Thrust wheels look just right with staggered 225/55/16 front and 255/50/16 rear Yokohama radials that fill the fender gaps quite nicely. Documented with receipts ownership paperwork back to the original owner and PHS information this is a lot of west-coast Firebird for the price of a garden-variety car. Call today!
