Pontiac Firebird 1968 Description

This is my 1968 Firebird 400 which was sold new in Washington State where salt is not used on the roads so it is virtually rust free. It has 63,000 original miles with one repaint and otherwise very original. All body panels are original. The vinyl top is original and still looks excellent. The interior is completely original including carpet and door sill plates (with rivets) and in excellent condition. The dash pad, onsole, oor panels, tc. have no cracks, arks or scratches. All of the glass is original including the outside mirror. The car has a replacement carb, ut I have a nice 1968 400 Firebird automatic carb to go with the car. The original washer pump is installed, ut there is a small aftermarket washer pump added to the car. I have not had time to restore the original pump. After last tax season (I am a CPA), he gas gauge did not work, nd I have not yet run down the connection that needs to be cleaned. If the car does not sell, will correct this myself. The car also has a repo front bumper. The original AC still blows cold air and has its original sticker on the AC compressor. Except for the carb, he drivetrain is totally original including the air cleaner, ntake, eads, born with" matching block, alve covers, dle stop solenoid, eat riser shroud, olts, uts, ashers, ransmission, rive shaft, ear end, tc, tc, tc. I doubt the engine has ever been apart so I suggest that the timing chain be replaced at some point. Correct 14X6 Rally II wheels are not original but go with the car. The original deluxe wheel covers are included and have nice red centers. I also have a box of small NOS/repo items such as parking light bulbs, tc that I will include and probably a few other paper items that I have for the car such as a dealer brochure that I will find. I got my 1969 Judge, hich I still own, n 1979 when I was 19 so I have been at this for 36 years.

This Firebird has been in an enclosed garage and covered most of its life. It was purchased new in Washington State by an attorney and owned by him until his death. His widow sold it to someone who owned it a short time, nd then it was sold to the fellow I purchased it from who was an elementary school principal in Centralia, ashington. He had the car painted. It has traveled less than 100 miles per year for many years. Several years ago, traveled from North Carolina to Washington State to buy this Firebird due to its originality and excellent condition. It was brought across the country in an enclosed trailer. I am a 56 years old and a Pontiac guy thru and thru.I have only used alcohol free gas mixed with real lead and engine oil containing zinc with additional zinc added at each oil change. I am as picky as anyone in the country when it comes to maintaining an old Pontiac.

I have the Pontiac Historic Services info on the car. Options include: 400 4 BBL V8 (includes chrome air cleaner/rocker covers/oil cap, ual exhaust, eclutching fan, ood scoops, hrome “hockey sticks” in grill, rrow head on front bumper), ydra-Matic Transmission, M Radio, eluxe Wheel Discs, eluxe Steering Wheel, onsole, ower Steering, ower Brakes, oft Ray Glass—all windows, ucket Seat Adjuster (extremely rare and works), ustom Air Conditioning, inyl Top.

Remember that Firebirds came with a straight six, 350 or a 400 so genuine matching numbers 400 Firebirds in this condition can be hard to find.

I entered it in one judged show at the Greensboro N.C. General GreeneChapter of AACA where it won a First. It would probably not win a gold at a POCI convention because the engine has never been out to be detailed and the underside and exhaust are not like new--just clean and rust free--except for the exhaust system. I believe it hasthe original exhaust on the car with a replacement muffler.

I am ambivalent about selling the car, ut I need more time to complete some work on my GTO. Also, am a CPA, nd my wife and I have two young children, ne of whom is autistic, o I seem to have little time left for the cars, he sportbike, ishing, tc. (That's life, sn't it? lol)

I will not give out the reserve price. If it does not sell, 'll take that as a sign that I should sell something else that I am letting sit too much or try again after tax season. If you want an original low mileage authentic great driving Firebird, ou will not be disappointed. The car can be seen in Kernersville, orth Carolina by appointment, ut this is tax season for CPA's so it will need to be later on Saturday or Sunday. If you havespecific questions about the car (not the reserve or what will I let it go for), -mail me at mstaley2@triad.rr.com.Please let me knowif you want to see pictures of anything else.
