Pontiac GTO 1968 Description
Up for Sale is a 1968 Pontiac GTO Project. I bought this car 10 years ago when I was amassing quite the collection. I am now getting rid of some projects that I'll likely never get to finishing. I have the PHS for the car and it is a very low option GTO with 400, speed Manual, ash Tach andthat'sabout it. The car wasoriginallygreen and painted orange at one point in time. The car sat for many years inside a barn before I purchased it. It was lastlicensed and drivenin the 80's before I got it running. The barn roof leaked on the car and subsequently into the car. It has rust on the dash under the windshield, n the rear floor pan pass side, n the trunk and package tray area, nd around the rear wheel wells. There is also rust in the lower fenders and one spot on the hood. Our climate is typically dry so all the rust is from the seals leaking and road salt from when the car was driven. Mice lived in the car for some time and the car would need to be gutted to get everything cleaned up. I don't think there is a panel on the car that does not have a dent or needs repair. I tried to take photos of all the damage but you get the idea. The hood was also buckled near the hinges at one time. The interior needs complete replacing. The motor actually runs really good for sitting so long.I rebuilt the carb and some electrical components before I tried to start the car. It idles nice and fires right up. The motor does not smoke and I think that it runs so well because it does not appear to have been removed or rebuilt by some novice. The trans shifts smooth but the clutch chatters. I would not consider this car road worthy but I used to drive it on the country roads quite often. The motor has good oil pressure and does not overheat.
I have not tried to see if all the electrical items work. I know the oil pressure, emp, uel, nd tach all work fine. I never had a reason to try the others but I would not expect any major problems. The wiring appears mostly original without much butchering. Most of the trim is there and I have a few extra parts for the car. It comes with a better deck lid, etter drivers door, nd another door for internal parts. I only have one Pontiac wheel and the car comes with the 1969 cutlass wheels that are on it. I also have a lower rear seat for the car and some other minor parts.
This is a project car that is 98% complete. The chassis is solid and it runs and drives around the yard. It does not appear to have ever been in a major wreck. The car needs a complete restoration or do like I did and enjoy it the way it is on the back roads. Please look at the pictures and ask questions. I have a clear title for the car and may be able to transport for a fee. Thanks
