Pontiac 1956 Description
This one of a kind Four Door Hardtop Starchief has been completely restored, rebuilt and upgraded from the ground up. More than a frame off restoration this beauty has a powder coated frame, body panels undercoated, ew interior and carpets (original colors and patterns), very metal panel repainted, new whitewall tires and comes with many factory original options – including air, ower steering and brakes, potlight, lock, tainless skirts, xtra chrome and stainless trim, tc.. The complete drive train and suspension has been modernized to improve drivability, afety and performance, ut the changes are all below the skin so that the car maintains its stock appearance. The interior and carpets are redone in original factory materials, olors, atterns and embossing. The steering wheel, ash gauges, nd panels have all been redone. The inside of this car is as stunning as the original. This was a rare factory equipped air condition car and the original ventsare utilized although all of the working internals are replaced with modern aftermarket components. The air blows cold.A high performance 400 cubic inch HO from a 1969 Firebird replaces the original motor. The blocks of these engines are nearly identical and are visually equivalent, ut vastly different in performance. The motor was professionally built by Valley Head Service with new pistons, earings, alves, achining andbalancing. It was upgraded with a Crane hydraulic roller cam, orted heads and improved compression ratio. Thismotor has twin four barrel carburetors to mimic the top NASCAR engine offering in 1956 (tri power was not a factory option until the following year, 957.) The car has great power and torque but is quiet and very street worthy. A professionally rebuilt Turbo 350 replaces the original Hyrdamatic. A rebuilt Dana 60 rear end with 3.70 gear replaces the lighter duty original Pontiac. An electric fan cools the new radiator. New fuel lines, elts, rake lines and hoses were installed throughout.Disk brakeswere installed on all four corners and the master cylinder was upgraded to twin cylinders for modern safety and stopping power. New springs and sway bars were installed front and rear, oweringthe stanceby about2 1/2 inches. The power steering box was rebuilt and new shocks were installed. This car drives and handles better than the original. The original factory radio is in place but recently stopped working; an aftermarket radio / CD is installed inconspicuously and extra speakers and twin power antennae installed for superior audio performance. The car was repainted in a pearl white and medium blue two tone in the spirit of the 50's colors but not identical original. All metal surfaces were painted off the frame to cover and protect all surfaces. All chrome and stainless has been polished and/or replated. The car comes complete with owner's manual and sales brochures. The four door hardtop is perfect for cruising with easy rear access for up to three additional passengers while maintaining the desirable hardtop look. This Pontiac is as grand example of the elaborate cars of the 50's; this is simply a great car. Everything was redone at a cost of over $70K, his is a gorgeous car.
