History of the Car

I found this car in Somers CT. It had sat for 20 years. The father of the gentleman I bought it from owned a body shop. The car was brought in to have some work done. The guy never paid and told them to keep the car and it sat at the shop for 5 years. He sold the business and the car went to his son's garage where it sat for 15 years. I received the car in pieces. The car is all original. I have much of the original paperwork on the car including the owner's manual, arranty card, eceipts, egistration cards (Last one from 1986 - The last time it was registered), uild ticket from under the seat. It appears to be a 2 Owner car transferred from sister to brother evident from the registration receipts.

Prior to My Ownership

I believe the car has new lower rear quarters, etal and welded in. The color was changed from Brittany Beige to Bronze at some point. The trunk floor has a couple patches next to each wheel well. There is some body filler in the lower front quarters as a light refrigerator magnet does not stick in a couple of spots.

Work Done

Since I have had the car I have done the following:

  • Tune up
    • Upgraded to Electronic Ignition - New cap, oints, otor
    • Wires
    • Plugs
    • Belts
    • Fuel Filter
  • Completely New Brake System (4 Wheel Drum)
    • Master Cylinder
    • Brake Lines - solid and flexible (Inline Tube)
    • Shoes
    • Brake Hardware
  • Fuel System
    • New Gas Tank
    • New Sending unit and sending unit wire
    • New Gas Tank Straps and Insulators
    • New Gas Tank Vapor Lines (inline tube)
  • Rebuilt Stock Hurst Shifter
  • New Front and Center Floor Brace and New Floor Pans
  • New Shocks
  • Replaced rear lower control arms
  • New rear control arm bushings (upper and lower)
  • Trunk Patched and Repainted
  • Repaired Transmission Crossmember
  • Re-finished Stock Rally II Wheels
  • New Tires
  • Rear End - Dressed and New Fluid & Gasket
  • New Heater Core
  • New Battery

I stripped under the gas tank and rear end and coated it with Master Series Silver and then painted prior to installation of all parts. I patched a small area of the trunk, repped with Master Series Silver and painted with Dupli-Color Spatter Paint and 3 coats of clear. I removed the old floor from the toe kick to passenger foot wells, elded in new floor braces and the new floor. All welds were lightly prepped and coated with Master Series Silver. I rebuilt the factory Hurst Shifter and installed a new output shaft seal on the transmission. The rims were media blasted, oated with Master Series Silver masked and painted the correct Pontiac colors.

Included With the Sale:

  • All Original Paperwork I received with the car
  • PHS Documentation & Replica Window Sticker
  • Pontiac Shop Manual
  • Pontiac Body Manual
  • Pontiac Assembly Manual
  • New Fuel Pump
  • Pontiac Rally Gauge Cluster with 140mph Speedometer & Tachometer (Gauge Cluster Looks like it will need a new circuit board which is readily available)
  • Original Points Distributor with almost new cap, otor, oints, nd wires
  • 2 Carburetor Rebuild Kits (One is NOS - has some water damage. The second one from The Carburetor Shop is Brand New)
  • New Trunk Seal
  • Rocker Panel Moldings - not installed
  • A box of parts, uts, olts, tc. that came with the car

Overall this car is in very good shape and solid. The car is all metal and straight with the exception of the front lower quarters - come over I will give you a magnet. The motor runs strong and the transmission shifts fine. The doors do not hang and they open and close easily. Everything works: interior lights, linkers, azard lights, everse lights, runk light, eat belt buzzer, arking brake, peedometer, arning lights, eater and fan, igarette lighter, ipers (washer fluid pump is not working), abin air vents.

What does the car need? Nothing really if you want a fun daily driver. Drive it as is. I have been and it is a BLAST!

However here is a punch list of items I planned to address:

  • Radiator gets wet on long drives - 2-3hrs - It will need a new one or a re-core in the near future
  • Replace the two shifter shaft O-rings - It weeps
  • Replace the Interior - It is original - Seats have some cracks, arpet is worn and dry rotted in places, ash has cracks, nsulator between rear seat and trunk is missing, assenger rear arm rest has crack around ash tray, he headliner is complete and tight but does have three nickel/quarter size mouse holes in it
  • Driver's remote mirror does not adjust correctly and mirror is one of those cut to fit (just really bad, ut needed to pass inspection). The replacement real glass one I ordered from AMES is incorrect and too large
  • I believe the car, r parts of the car were sanded to bare metal at some point (evident in spots on hood and chipped paint on rocker panels). There is surface rust on the lower passenger door - so if you were going to paint it, would make sure that it is properly prepped.
  • The driver's side radiator support could use a patch - part of it is rusted away.
  • Prep the floor brace/floor welds under the car and paint from under the rear seat to the firewall
  • I patched the fuel line from under the rear seat to just where it starts to curve to go over the rear axle with compression fittings and metal line - so the fuel line could be replaced but you have to lift at least part of the body off the frame
  • Front bumper is driver quality and without dents, ear bumper is not in great shape although not completely rusted through it is close in spots, ower front valence is driver quality, olid but with some dings that could be massaged out with some effort, ear lower valance (plastic) has a tear in it
  • Rocker panel mouldings are driver quality - some blemishes, itting
  • Replace Badging - Trunk Pontiac Badge is broken - Other LeMans badges are driver quality - nose emblem is faded, eMans fender badges are pitted
  • The driver's side key does not turn the lock. I am not sure if it is the key or the lock.

This car is a great driver. All the hard stuff is done. Get an interior kit, inish the punch list, aint the motor (pull it and prep the engine bay if you want), rep the body yourself, et it painted and you can have a really nice car that is fun to drive for less than another $2000.

NADA lists this car at a high retail at $13,687.00.

Why am I selling it? Sort story is a friend was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer at Thanksgiving and passed away Christmas Eve. Life is too short to not work for what you really want. I had a 1964 GTO in my 20's and just love that body style. So I recently Picked up a 1964 LeMans. I don't have garage space for both.

Thank you for looking! -Doug
