Pontiac Firebird 1968 Description
This auction features a fullyPHS documented 1968 Firebird 400 Coupe. The car is a gutted roller, but is an extremely clean metal wise. This is a car that went in for restoration 20 years ago and was torn down and never completed. As far as I can tell this is all the original factory sheet metal. I am selling this car as a roller. If your project car is seriously rusted you can save a ton in the cost of sheetmetal and bodywork by purchasing this shell. And when you are done you will have a true 400 car, not a clone. Car has a clear title.
Body: The only bad I could find were inthree areas; the passenger floor has a patch in it (see photos) and the passenger quarter looks to have been repaired, there is evidence it was drilled and pulled and hammered out. It is an old repair, panel looks good. Probably fine as is with some finish work. Passenger fender looks to have been dented and someone hammered on it. It will need some more work as the door gap is off. A marginal area is the nubs for the vinyl top trim were ground off and someone started to weld in the holes. Otherwise trunk and floors are spotless. The decklid is also clean, I have never seen such a clean piece with all the correct 400 holes and reinforcements. Front fenders were media blasted and as you can see have just minor pin holes of rust. Doors are clean, as are the door jams. The dashboard is clean rust wise as well. It has the original 400 hood (very clean), bumper (with arrowhead) correct grilles, radiator filler panels. Of course I have the PHS documents supporting this is a real 400 car. Includes spotless inner fenders. Car was blown apart when I got it, put it back together to show buyers the vision, and make it easier to take home. Left inners out for better inspection.
The car is a roller, has the factory differential (2:56 open differential) the factory drum brakes are intact and functional, there is no motor or transmission (originally a 400THM). When I bought the car it had a Chevy small block in it with a 700R4. Does not come with the car. I will include the correct factory engine mounts for the car. Sub-frame is unmolested and all original with no rust or collision damage.
There is no interior, it comes as pictured. It does have what appears to be a newer headliner. No glass, but it looks like all the mechanisms are there for the glass. I have box of door lock parts, is it all there? I don't know? Most of the A/C components are missing, the under dash heater box is there.
I have a 1969 Pontiac Firebird project car I am building, and seriously thought about taking all the parts,I collected and building this clean car. Unfortunately, I have bought all the body panels for it and I'm kind of at the point of no return with installation. I could have saved a lot of money and timehad I gotten this shell sooner!!
Please inspect the pictures and ask questions. I have tried to describe this car is carefully as possible but understand the vehicle is sold as pictured, as is, with no warranty, implied or otherwise.
