1970 Pontiac Catalina 400 Sport 6-Passenger Station Wagon

We recently acquired this very rare and unusual 1970 Pontiac Catalina 400 Station Wagon here in Dallas, exas and drove it 40 miles home at 70mph. This is a great old driving project wagon that has been garaged since 1982 and was recently brought to light, ew tires installed, few hoses, new waterpump and a small electric fuel pump added. The just under 72,000 miles are original to the car according to the previous owner and we believe it. It is powered by its original drivetrain, he high compression 400 cubic inch 2bbl. V8 paired with the stout shifting 3-speed automatic transmission. It appears the cylinder heads have been rebuilt at some time and other work done in the past. The body is all original and intact including the frame, loorboards, nd trunk pan front to back. This car was ordered in Verdoro green with green vinyl interior, ll intact.T3 headlamps are intact. You, our father, r your grandfather could have walked in the Pontiac dealership back in 1970 to check out the slick GTO models but they likely came some with something better suited for the family, uch as this Catalina "Sport" Wagon. I use the term "Sport" loosely, ut that is Pontiac's designation name for this model. Remember 1970 would be the final year of the high compression engines, tation wagons were no different.

The exterior presents all original body panels front to back and original glass. This car was ordered in Verdoro Green, he paint is flaking and fading throughout, lthough the body itself is remarkably solid. There is some isolated rust at the bottom of the tailgate panel. The door undersides are excellent as are the inner quarters, looring, enders, ocker panels, tc. This is a great builder. All of the glass is intact however the windshield has a couple of cracks.

Open the doors to 1970.

This interior is all original. The dash features functional gauges and lighting including the oil and temp light along with the speedometer and odometer. The cassette stereo is also working. The power operated rear tailgate window is also fully functional.

The dash has a crack or two but is all there.

The door panels are intact front to back and the door undersides are excellent. The original weatherstrip is cracked and worn throughout.

Under the hood is the original 400 cubic inch high compression 2bbl. V8. This torque-rich powerplant runs out good and is paired with the original 3-speed automatic transmission. A factory A/C car, he compression and lines are intact and the interior A/C blower works, ut there is no belt on the compression. The compressor feels good with compression, don't think the A/C needs much to work, ut again too many projects. This car is also optioned with power front disc brakes and power steering.

The original trim identification plate is in place along with the VIN plate. The inner fenders, ore support, nd firewall sheetmetal is original and solid.

The undercarriage displays the original frame in excellent condition along with intact original floorboards front to back.

The back seat folds down for more transport room.

The trunk area is also solid and original.

The headliner has been removed. The original carpeting is intact front to back.

The tailgate works and the power rear glass works.

The worst rust on this car is the bottom of the tailgate, hotographed above.
