Studebaker Champion Starlight 1952 Description
Not our usual stock in trade, we are listing this Studebaker for a local client who inherited it from his next door neighbor who built the car. The California registration states it is a 1952 model but the bullet nose Studebakers were phased out with 1951 model. We are certainly not Studebaker experts but this is most likely a clerical error. This an older build. It appears that the car was done 10 to 15 years ago as it was actually painted by a body man who is now in our employ. It has held up remarkably well over the years as the paint is still very presentable with only minor flaws. The roof has been chopped and all the windows are glass except the rear wrap around which are plastic. Rather than describe the at length in this listing you can click the link to view a .pdf describing the car in an appraisal that was done locally for the new owner. You can also view additional photos of the car. Click Here
The car runs and drives very well. The engine is strong and the transmission shifts properly. We did notice that the markings on the shift gate do not exactly coincide with the actual gears so you may have to feel around a bit. The undercarriage is decidedly driver quality but clean and functional. The car retains its manual steering and drum brakes so these both require a bit of effort. Everything seems to work on the car except the gas gauge. There is an occasional sound of a tire rubbing so this may need to be looked into.
The builder obviously spent an incredible amount of time and money on this car. For a fraction of the build cost you can immediately drive this custom Studebaker to the local show. Please let us know if you have any questions.
