Studebaker CHAMP 1960 Description
I PURCHASED THIS TRUCK 2 YEARS AGO FROM A GENTLEMAN WHO BOUGHT THIS OFF OF EBAY 10 YEARS AGO. IT WAS FRESHLY PAINTED WHEN HE BOUGHT IT AND THE PAINT STARTED COMING OFF WITHIN A YEAR AFTER HIM PURCHASING THE VEHICLE. SUPER QUICKIE BAD PAINT JOB EBAY SPECIAL. I BOUGHT THE TRUCK FROM HIM, AND I WAS GOING TO STRIP DOWN THE TRUCK AND GIVE IT A BLACK RUBBERIZED PAINT JOB, AS THAT IS ALL I WANTED TO DO WITH IT COSMETICALLY. I WANTED A RELIABLE TRUCK MECHANICALLY AND WAS NOT CONCERNED WITH A BEAUTIFUL PAINT JOB. NOTICE THE FORD TAILLIGHTS THAT WERE MORPHED INTO THE REAR BOX. I BOUGHT THIS TRUCK BECAUSE OF THE DESIRED STUDEBAKER BED, AND NOT THE UGLY MISMATCHED PURCHASED FROM DODGE (1957) BED.
THIS TRUCK HAS NO POWER OPTIONS, HAS THE 259 2 BARREL, A BARE BONED OLD SCHOOL DRIVING EXPERIENCE. I HAD NEW SHOCKS PUT ON, WITH THE LEAF SPRING SUSPENSION, IT IS A RUSTIC RIDE TO SAY THE LEAST, NEW CUSTOM MADE DUAL EXHAUST PUT ON IT WITH GLASS PACK MUFFLERS, AND I HAVE REPLACED THE WATER PUMP AND RADIATOR TWICE, BECAUSE AS YOU CAN SEE I HAD AN ACCIDENT WITH IT THIS SUMMER.
TRUCK NEEDS A NEW FRONT CLIP AND FENDER AND LIGHT-TURN SIGNAL ASSEMBLY. THE CHROME BUMPER NEEDS RESTORING. THE FRONT CLIP WAS PUSHED IN ENOUGH THAT IT CHEWED UP THE BRAND NEW (1ST ONE) RADIATOR. I HAVE SINCE INSTALLEDANOTHER NEW ONE, BUT DID NOT PUT THE FAN BLADE BACK ON, SO YOU CAN MOVE THE TRUCK AS NEEDED, UNTIL IT IS REPAIRED. THE FRONT DRIVERS SIDE WHEEL ASSEMBLY IS TIGHT WHEN MOVING THE TRUCK . SOMETHING GOT PINCHED IN IT FROM THE COLLISION. THE FRAME APPEARS STRAIGHT THOUGH. IT IS A PROJECT FOR SOMEONE WITH THE KNOWLEDGE AND KNOW HOW.
I WAS TOLD THAT A 1959 AND 1960 LARK 4 DOOR HAS THE SAME SHEET METAL, FENDERS ETC, TO GET THE JOB DONE. THAT IS PROBABLY THE WAY TO GO, AS I AM SURE WITH SOME INTERNET SEARCHING, A 4 DOOR IN A BONEYARD IS QUITE POSSIBLE, AS FEW PEOPLE RESTORE 4 DOOR CARS.
TRUCK HAD FROM THE PREVOIUS EBAY SELLERS, ASIREN AND LIGHTS MOUNTED ON THE ROOF OF THE TRUCK AND HAD SOME RUNNING BOARDS THAT I CUT OFF. THEY WERE GOING FOR DODGE LITTLE RED TRUCK LOOK WITH THIS. IT ALSO HAD SMOKE STACK MUFFLERS, WHICH I DITCHED IMMEDIATELY. HAS THE COOL SEARCH LIGHTS MOUNTED ON IT, THEY ARE NOT WIRED UP TO WORK RIGHT NOW. TRUCK NEEDS A NEW BRAKE BOOSTER. MILEAGE SAYS 65K, BUT WHO REALLY KNOWS. I HAVE A CLEAR TITLE FOR IT.
