AMC Javelin 1972 Description

Up for sale is a 1972 AMC Javelin SST. I have owned this car for 16 years, and it has a clean title, never been in an accident. All numbers matching from block to heads to dash.I purchased this car in 2000 in Nebraska, it had been sitting undriven since 1981, and was all original with 68,xxx miles on it. Originally root beer brown with gold stripes, and I still have the original hubcaps.I repainted it dark purple with silver stripes in 2001, also rebuilding the engine, more details on that later. It then went into dry storage in 08/2001 when I went into active duty military service. In 2010, when I separated from the military, I got the car back out of storage and brought it to Texas. It has been driven less than 500 miles since then, mostly sitting in my garage in various stages of build. It has never sat outside since 2001.My plan was to rebuild it into a Mark Donohue Trans-Am replica from the AMC's glory days of 71'-72'. (see picture in listing of what the finished goal is)I gutted the interior and installed a roll cage. The whole cab interior/cage is coated with POR-15 Whitecoat ($225 a gallon, ultra-durable). All of the holes in the rear deck were welded shut to seal off the cab.Fiberglass race dash added, wrapped in carbon fiber vinyl. AutoMeter Pro-pack gauge kit installed. (Dash still needs to be mounted properly, custom brackets need fabbed)I have 2 new Sparco race seats that go with the car, one is in the car, the second is still wrapped in the plastic. The trunk pan was very solid, stripped bare and then coated with SEM rust-proofer. It is still bare, waiting to be finished, with an 18 gallon race fuel cell in the trunk with an electric pump back there too.The front quarter panels were stripped of paint, corner marker holes were welded shut for a cleaner appearance. Rear quarter panels were replaced with new sheet metal due to small bits of corrosion around the wheel arches. I did not want ANY body filler on the car hiding rust. The rear corner markers holes were also welded up and so were the C-Pillar badge holes. The roof, hood, trunk lid and doors still have the paint from 2001, and need to be stripped, primed and prepped. The chin spoiler/air dam was fabricated by me, it is steel, welded to the lower valance and then finished off by my local bodyshop.Disc brakes were added to front, rear still has drums in place.Front suspension has custom coil springs and new shocks, otherwise its all stock. Rear suspension is all stock. Leaf springs are tired and need replaced.Engine runs great, but has only exhaust manifolds in place, no exhaust system after that, so it is undriveable. I am happy to fire it up for you and let you hear it run/rev, but it is not adviseable to drive it any distances. The car will come with brand new Hooker headers, ceramic coated! (see pics)Engine was rebuilt in 2001 to nearly stock specs, new main & cam bearing, new piston rings, new lifters, timing chain, seals, etc installed. Rotating mass balanced and 3 angle valve job done. Aluminum intake installed.MSD distributor, coil and ignition control installed.Original 3 speed automatic transmisson is in the car, with a B&M deep pan, but there is a leak somewhere on the unit that I have not addressed. My plan was to swap in a T-5, which I have in my garage, along with a bellhousing that will mate it to the AMC block, and an AMC Flyhweel. You would still need to purchase the hydraulic actuating mechanism (there is a cool internal slave cylinder unit you can find right here on EBay to keep it simple). You will get the T-5 and Flywheel with the car if you are the winning bidder. The car has a 3rd (clutch) pedal mounted and ready to mate to whatever master cylinder setup you want. It is a stock AMC pedal setup and will work perfectly.Current wheels are 16x8 aluminum, with Nexen tires that have less than 500 miles on them.HVAC systems have been deleted from car.VIN badge is riveted onto new dash .I also have a period correct rear AMX spoiler that will go with the car (see pics), mounting holes have not been drilled in the trunk lid.The windshield is brand new. I also have all of the original window trim, clips, windshield wiper arms, front parking lamps and turn signal parts, they will come with the car. I do not have the headlights, those holes were to become brake cooling ducts, and smaller driving lights were going to be installed elsewhere.
Please ask questions if you have them, I'm sure I'm forgetting quite a bit. I travel a lot for work, so I may not answer right away, but within 24 hours for sure. This is most definitely a project car that need some elbow grease to get done. But it is a solid starting point for someone with time, and if you know the value of some of these parts on it, you know my price is fair.I am not in a rush to sell, so please do not offer me less than my starting price. I will do as much as I can to help you load this onto a trailer, oraccommodate your needs.
