Buick Skylark 1972 Description

The 1965Skylark Gran Sportwas theintermediateBuick Skylarkwith the Gran Sport option added. Although a 300in3(4,916cc)V8was already offered in the Skylark, he Gran Sport had the largest engine permitted by GM - a 400cuin (6,555cc)Buick V8. This engine was actually 401cuin (6,570cc), ut called a "400" by Buick because that was the maximum engine size limit set by General Motors for the intermediate body cars. Buick sold more than 15,000 Skylarks with the Gran Sport option that first year, nd almost as many the next. It was renamed the GS 400 in 1967, nd the Gran Sport became its own model in (about) that same year. The name Gran Sport replaced the GS moniker with the 1973 Gran Sport, nd was again revived in the late eighties on the FWD Skylark model.

Offered for sale is perhaps one of the rarest of 1972 GS 350's in existence. And what makes the car even more incredible is that it is a true survivor with a remarkably low 9,873 miles. Only five GS Convertibles were produced in a special order Buick Rivera Dark Chestnut(only available on a Rivera). One of the five was a 455 engine and another was a Stage One 455. That makes this vehicle one of only three Buick GS 350 convertibles to leave the factory painted in Buick Rivera Dark Chestnut(data plate code 67). Add the rarity of the paint with the heavily optioned status of this vehicle as evidenced by the window sticker, his quiet possibly could be the rarest of them all. Some of the options listed are as follows: Turbo Hydra-matic 350 transmission, ower disc brakes, ower steering, tereo 8 track tape player, M-FM stereo radio with rear seat speakers, hrough bumper dual exhaust, white wall g-78-14 tires, ositive traction differential, eavy duty cooling, ir conditioning, ustom front and rear seat belts, peed alert, oft ray tinted glass, ear window defogger, ront and rear bumper guards, oor guards, utside rear view sport mirrors with left side remote control, ower seat, ilt steering wheel, lectric door locks, lectric clock, hrome plated wheels, rotective body side moldings, allye steering wheel, pecial car order paint, ustom trim, arpet savers and handy mats, nd door guards. Some of the least equipped options leaving the factory were the electric door locks(6%), ear window defogger(7%), track player (13%), nd Rallye steering wheel(29%).

We all have our own definition of a true survivor. To me its simple, he majority of the vehicle is still in its original state. Meaning, riginal paint, nterior, ngine top, tc.

To the best of my knowledge the paint, nterior, hrome, onvertible top and engine are original and have never been restored. The passenger door in certain light gives off a slightly different shade than the rest of the car. It has confused me for a few years whether this has been resprayed, 've been told by experts that many times various parts of these cars can age differently giving a different shade. The paint on the car has in certain spots an orange peel effect that comes with aging. As you can see from the pictures the car presents itself in excellent shape for paint that is 40+ years old. No body rust or chipping. The chrome is excellent. The interior is excellent as well as the convertible top. This car has never been restored, hich is why its labeled a survivor.

Mechanically, he engine has never been restored as you can see in the pictures. It runs excellent, tarts effortlessly, andles and stops like a gem. All options work as intended including the windshield washer. Replacement battery and period correct tires have been placed on the car. The spare tire may very well be the original spare that came with the car. I believe the 8 track player works but to be honest I threw out all my 8 tracks 30 years ago and haven't tried it.

The mileage has been well documented through ownership records(titles, dmv records, tc). Window sticker, omplete ownership records, ocumentation from The Sloane Museum confirming the special order paint color of the car, nd vehicle operation manual will be included with the sale of this vehicle.

I strongly recommend that if you have serious interest in this vehicle that you plan an inspection before bidding. The car is located approx. 45 mins from New York City.
