Buick Skylark 1969 Description
I purchased this Buick in April, 993 from a mechanic friend who claimed to have obtained it from the elderly original owner from Englewood, olorado. He also maintained that the mileage (just over 50,000 then and now) was original. Although it was impossible for me to substantiate this claim, he astonishing originality of the car lead me to conclude that this may well be the case. After my purchase, drained the gas tank and placed the car in secure inside storage where it has barely seen the light of day until last week. During the past 22 + years, have changed the oil and filter regularly, nd "bottle run" the engine and transmission frequently.Mechanically, he Buick appears to be completely original and unmodified in any way that I can see, although I am not a mechanic or GS expert). The engine seems to be really strong and starts right up. It has the original carb and air cleaner but it is missing the foam hood pads The transmission appears to shift fine but is beginning to leak at the pan. The engine compartment is original and I have never attempted to detail it beyond spraying it with a garden hose. The brakes have given up after all these years, ut the car can be lot driven via emergency brake. Every accessory, ight, urn signal etc. operates as it should. The GS wheels and caps are very presentable. The tires are black and round, s the saying goes. They hold air and don't leak; that's about all you can say for them. With all of this in mind, t goes without saying that the car is not presently road worthy, nd would need to be shipped by its new owner.
As I have tried to show with the photos, t is clear that the little lady that owned this Buick had the habit of getting a little too close to things. There are numerous dents and scrapes on both sides of the car, nd some of them are significant. But the originality of the paint, including the original pinstriping), s remarkable. From what I can see, he ONLY body work EVER done is the small area on the very left rear corner. Other than that (lousy) work, he paint and body is 98% original. Underneath, he car is extremely solid and undisturbed. the only rust I could find is a less-than-dime sized spot on the right rear corner adjacent to the rear of the wheel trim moulding. I see no evidence of any rust repair work under the car or in the fender panels. Because of the vinyl top, he car had some very typical and minor rust around the rear window mouldings, ll of which I have tried to show in photos (The sides and front windshield area are fine). As you might know, his is far less than the amount of rust commonly found in these vinyl top cars. (When I bought the car, ground out the rust and used Por-15 to stop the decay. Since the original vinyl top was shot, couldn't resist peeling 1/2 of the top off to see what it looked like without the vinyl)! No dents on the top that I found. The sheet metal has no bubbles anywhere, nbsp;the door bottoms are rust free, s are the front fenders and jambs. The door hinges have the typical slight sag and could use some new pins. (If the new owner wants it, have a correct and excellent right door with glass that I will include in the auction, ut it is from a blue GS). There is LIGHT SURFACE ONLY rust in the area underneath the trunk mat. Beyond that, he wheel houses and trunk pan are completely dry and original. (Although it would be very easy to paint the trunk area, opted to let the new owner see this area for themselves). The factory jack and components are in place under the well-worn spare tire. The trunk lid is rust free and undamaged, ut is missing the lock cover. (I have a new one and would consider selling it to the new owner separately for what I paid for it) All of the side window glass is outstanding, olls up and down without issue, nd worthy of a show car. The rear window is fine, he windshield has a faint wiper mark. All window trim is present. The front bumper was pushed in, ut the damage not structural in any way and was confined to the bumper itself and the plastic grille shell. I have two good grille shells, int extra headlight trim, ouldings, nbsp;and a rechromed front bumper ($540.00 from Bumper Boyz), hich are included in the auction. The rear bumper needs to be redone.
The interior is excellent and completely original, xcept for a period correct tachometer (not me but it was installed professionally and looks fine) and a NOS set of front seat covers. The gorgeous pearlescent sheen in the original white interior surfaces match the covers very well. Even the original carpet is excellent, nd I personally would not ever replace it. The padded dash, oor panels and console trim are excellent The headliner is original and fine. The rear seat and seat back panels appear to be virtually unused. The package shelf is tired, ut I have included a good one in this auction. The black steel surround panel above the package shelf has light surface rust and needs to be painted. (I never removed the rear window and will leave this to the new owner when the rust repair is done). I have included new rear pillar light lens and a GS steering wheel/ pad if you don't like the original and somewhat tired "grandma" steering wheel. I had the original am/fm radio serviced by an old school expert. The rear speaker is marginal, owever. The mirror is lighted, ut apparently needs a new bulb, have not looked at it. The ignition, oor locks and glove compartment lock are keyed as original and work fine. I have a clear Colorado title in hand, s well as a box of spare parts, ncluding tail lamp lens, xtra trim, tc.
There you have it. No warranty expressed or implied. I am placing a very low reserve, nd plan to let the 10 day auction run out, lthough the car is also for sale locally. $1000 Paypal deposit required within 48 hours of auction end by winning bidder. Full amount due via Cashier's check or cash within 10 days of sale. Bidders with low or negative feedback please call. I am not a professional, ut have tried to be as accurate as possible in my description. I have NOT detailed the car or tried to make it look like something it is not. My work on this car has been limited to oil / filter maintenance, aving the the front seat covers professionally replaced, leaning the interior and washing the body. Hopefully, he originality and potential of the car speaks for itself. I strongly encourage that you inspect this neat Buick. I am also happy to answer any questions that you may have. My number is 303-913-4654. Good luck! This is your opportunity to get a completely original GS and restore it right THE FIRST TIME!
