Cadillac Fleetwood 1939 Description
1939 Cadillac Fleetwood 60 Special Listed on behalf of Monte Shelton Motors Located in PORTLAND, OREGON. In 1938, the Billy Mitchell-designed Cadillac Fleetwood 60 Special was a breakthrough in luxury car styling. Mitchell conceived the idea of an owner-driven personal luxury sedan (as opposed to most luxury cars at the time which were intended to be chauffeur-driven) that integrated the latest low, streamlined design. The 60 Special was truly a landmark car that changed the luxury car market and its styling affected automotive design for the next 40 years. The 1939 Fleetwood 60 Special featured a new grille and hood treatment that gave a waterfall effect while remaining extremely aerodynamic. Running boards were gone and the entire look of the car pointed toward the road ahead. While the early history of this particular car is now unknown, it received a comprehensive restoration approximately 15 years ago and remains in excellent condition today. The deep black paint is gorgeous, with no unusual signs of wear or blemishes. The chrome and trim are lovely and present nicely. The bottom-side of the car is clean and rust-free, along with the wood body-to-frame plates (among the last wood used in Cadillac bodies) which are excellent. Please see photos. The interior was re-upholstered in correct tan wool broadcloth and Bedford Cord fabric which is beautiful. No rips or stains. The woodgrained metal dashboard and window moldings are exceptional. Just lovely. The gauges all work and appear to register accurately. The car is optioned with correct Cadillac-branded fog lights and working Cadillac heater-defroster. The Motorola radio and clock are present but not functioning at present. Carpets were replaced in correct tan wool and are in excellent condition along with the contrasting monogramed floor mats. The trunk is solid, rust-free and carpeted. Spare tire in the trunk. Tires are bias-ply wide whitewalls which show and drive well. Mechanically, this car runs like a Cadillac should. Starts easily with the original 6 volt electrical system. 346 cubic inch flathead V8 runs smooth and quiet with plenty of power for modern traffic. (See video.) These bulletproof engines were used by Cadillac from 1937-1948 (as well as in the U.S. Army M5 tanks in WWII) and have been proven to be one of the finest powerplants of the Classic era. The 3-speed transmission shifts crisply. Brakes stop the car smooth and straight. Runs cool. Under the hood is neat and clean with only some wear noted to the porcelain finish on the exhaust manifolds. This car has been dialed-in, driven and enjoyed. I have personally driven this car, and have also owned six other Cadillacs of this same era, so am in a good position to compare. It is turn-key and ready for the new owner to go or show anywhere in style. If you are looking for a Classic Cadillac for a night out on the town, a drive in the country or participation in Cadillac-LaSalle Club and Classic Car Club shows, events and tours, this is a fine one. A realistic reserve has been placed on this car in keeping with its quality. It could not be restored today to this level for the reserve price. Please bid accordingly. WE WILL HAPPILY SELL TO BIDDERS, WORLDWIDE. Thanks for lookign and GOOD LUCK! If the video link below is inactive, please go to: https://youtu.be/D9Bcc-3JEp0
