Chevrolet Other Pickups 1964 Description
Rare combination. Research indicates that only about 435 produced in 1964 with SWB, 4X4 and 1/2 ton. Original factory K code 4X4 not a Napco conversion. All original drive-train including the optional upgrade 292 cubic inch straight 6 cylinder. Installed new battery, new plugs, wires, rebuilt carb and the engine turns over freely, but has low compression. Believe valves may be stuck open due to 3 years of storage.
Has manual 4 speed and original transfer case. Also, somebody stole the gears/center section out of the original rear differential. Stock gears were 3:73, but I will have a 12 bolt 3:73 posi complete truck axle our of a 1970 Suburban I will include for the rear. Serial number on LH side of frame rail by engine matches showing H152803.
The first rare option is the factory K-10 4X4. This is also the Custom Cab and has stainless steel trim around the front windshield and it also has the rare and highly desireable Big Rear window option. Glass is the factory Soft-Ray tinted glass (an unusual option without A/C). In 1964 the stock engine was the 230 cubic inch 6 cylinder. The optional 292 is the largest 6 cylinder offered by Chevy. Larger displacement than the 283 V8 and more torque.
Note that the Cab, Bed and Front Clip are not bolted (connected) to the frame, but are sitting on the frame loose (reason for the odd alignments). The prior owner was preparing to do a full body off restoration of this pickup, but changed directions. It comes with the front fenders and I can include a very good l960 dual headlight grille (hard to find-one year only), if wanted. It did not come with the correct grille. If I am reading Vin decoder right this pickup was built in Oakland, California and came from the factory with a Stepside bed. The original bed was missing. I found a stepside bed that is shown and included in this sale. Has rust in the usual areas, fender bottoms, rockers, cab corners, etc. Note the stepside bed does NOT have the spare tire cutout.
Includes the Stepside wings that attach below the bottom of each cab corner in front of the steps on Stepsides only. Sometimes these wings are missing.
Recently I bought and will include some additional good parts including a good passenger side door, much better front fenders and a mint step side tailgate.Only major things missing are the rear drive line (stolen with differential and the radiator). The owner has the radiator, I just have to go get it.
Also found a 1972 K10 front end differential (3:73 gears) with disc brakes, power steering box and pump and a good rear big window enclosure. Can provide all for $250 extra, if you want to modify it to disc brakes and power steering. Note that both sides of the big window pillar supports have been damaged and patched with bondo. This replacement enclosure provides excellent straight pillar supports.
In 2016 two fully restored Chevy SWB pickups of the 64-66 vintage sold at the Mecham Auction (Monterey, Ca) for over $50K each. The 4/28/17 NADA guides price report shows low retail on this truck at $12,000, average retail at $22,500 and high retail at $54,000 or about what they have been selling for at recent auctions. Classic 50's and 60's pickups are one of the fastest growing segments of the collector car market.
Reserve is only $4,750.
