Chevrolet Nova 1969 Description

A good pro-street machine is a car with a mean racetrack appearance with just enough legality to hang a license plate and this 1969 Chevrolet Nova does it perfectly. It already has all the necessary equipment on it to drive to the dragstrip teach a few tire-smoking lessons and then go out for a Saturday night cruise. This Nova is a serious contender from every angle. Up front is the SS badge on the intimidating blacked-out grille and the exterior mounted gauges are hard to miss. Its profile has a menacingly aggressive leaning forward stance. In the rear everyone knows an electric cutoff switch is something for more than just showing off and you also can get a peek at some of the fuel cell hardware under the rear bumper. It's all wrapped in a don't-mess-with-me red paint job and set apart with an SS stripe package. Backing up this intimidating appearance is the knowledge that the Nova is one of the best cars for the street or dragstrip because they are the perfect combination of a compact/lightweight coupe that was built with the same stout parts as Chevy's other larger muscle cars. The interior is civilized enough for street use but the hardware is made for the track which is the essence of pro-street. The driver has a custom Auto Meter gauge setup with eight readouts total on the dash and mounted on the hood. The big tachometer is essential because the real fun of this toy comes from running through the four-speed line-lock Hurst shifter. If you were still doubting how serious this car is about getting on the track just look at the full toggle switch panel for all major components. Of course the other side of pro-street is that this car has to be usable beyond the racetrack. This Nova still has its full interior and the black vinyl is in good enough condition that it will put some show cars to shame. The front and rear benches mean there is room for six but you might want to first make sure your passengers are not timid about the cool custom "black widow" graphic on the dash. There is even an AM/FM/cassette stereo for those few times you want to listen to something other than the awesome roar of the motor. When you pop the hood you can tell this is no ordinary 350 cubic-inch small block V8. This motor was specially built to run. Among its goodies is a dual-feed carburetor performance intake aluminum radiator and performance air cleaner (you can check the restoration receipts and maintenance records for all the component details). But not all the performance parts are in the front. In the trunk is the racing fuel cell as well as the dual battery box. Not only are these often requirements for some of the more professional racing events but also this setup helps put weight over the driving wheels. In fact the rear wheels are so important that the leaf spring suspension has been swapped for a coil-over setup. This supports the 10-bolt Positraction rear end running 3.42 gears. The final piece keeping this car stuck to the ground is a pair of Goodyear Eagle GTII tires. For those times when you're not on the track this Nova has the convenience of power steering and power brakes with discs up front.Beautifully built and insanely fast this cool Nova nails pro-street in all the ways that matter.
