Texas Classic Cars Of Dallas is proud to showcase this great looking monstrous 1970 Chevelle SS Restomod. The 1970 Chevrolet Chevelle SS was one of the baddest cars on the streets, and it's one of the most desired muscle cars today. So finding one with right look, big-block power, A/C, and a killer interior might just be the right way to become the king of the neighborhood. The clue for getting a Chevelle SS right is not a hard one, but it sure is expensive. For example, this one meant investing heavily in a show-quality respray that transformed what was once a standard coupe, into the mean machine you see today.
When this Chevelle left the assembly plant, it looked much different than it does today. For starters, the car was covered in a common coat of single-stage paint. A run-of-the-mill small block lived between its factory-prepped wheel wells. And coated Black fabric wrapped its standard bench interior, it was an era-specific grocery getter that lacked to drop jaws and turn heads. To remedy that, the original paint was stripped and replaced by a slick coat of Cortez Silver and custom Black stripes literally put the icing on the cake. The drivetrain and interior components were traded for custom-stitched buckets and a professionally performance built Crate Chevy ZZ502 big block. And today, after a 6-figure restoration, this top dog coupe sits as a spectacular piece of iconic American muscle that’s detailed to better-than-new standards. Many enthusiasts view early ’70s Chevelles as both muscle car and classic Chevy design.
At the front of this sophisticated classic, a black crossbar grille hangs a prominent “SS” emblem between chrome-trimmed headlights, small marker lamps and a fresh chrome bumper. Opposite that bumper, a pinned Cowl Induction hood flows to polished cowl vents, fresh glass and pristine stainless trim. At the base of that trim, straight wheel frames, chrome door handles and clear marker lamps complement this Chevelle “SS502” badging. And at the back of the car, a second chrome bumper hangs clean between a fresh “Chevelle by Chevrolet” script and Chromed exhaust tips.Check the smoothed, body-matched engine bay and you’ll find 502 cubic inches of Chevrolet fury. At the top a polished Holley Performance 850CFM Double Pump Carburetor with wind sourced from a classic look air cleaner. That air/fuel mixture floods polished aluminum heads, and a big block painted to match the engine bay, with high flow 4 into 1 headers. In front of those components, a polished aluminum radiator circulates coolant around two electric puller fans thanks to a pliable hose and custom tube all to components combine to ensure first class detailing.
Beneath this Chevy, a clean undercarriage tells the story of a well maintained Chevelle. Rock-solid floor pans are sealed in tough undercoating, setting the perfect backdrop for a roster of high quality parts. Behind the immaculate big block, a professionally built Tremec TKO 5-Speed spins a custom driveshaft, which twists a familiar 12-bolt axle around big, 3.73 gears. That excellent drivetrain is framed by a mostly Hotchkis suspension that’s also been upgraded with Bilstein shocks. Hydroboost break system provide great stopping power that a new car would have, Baer calipers bridge the gap between four slotted discs. A sweet, but equally brutal, soundtrack is piped to remote controlled cutouts, or 3-inch pipes that hang an H-shaped crossover in front of Flowmaster dual-chamber mufflers. Power flows through custom American Racing wheels, which turn 275/40ZR19 Michelins in front of 305/45R18 Nitto 555s. And detail items include a deep-sump oil pan, a bulletproof flywheel cover, and a polished fuel tank.
Inside a ton of custom accents, this coupe’s crisp, leather cockpit is both inviting and unique. Its slick seat combo, which features mostly black accents, is firm to the touch and shows no signs of wear, especially the new Pro-Car Scat Bucket Seats. In front of those seats, a straight and crack-free dash hangs with Autometer Procomp Full Gauge Pack in a billet aluminum dash plate, controls for the car’s air conditioning and a modern Pioneer CD player. Below that dash, a small switch that will turn the awesome level to 100, the switch for the electronic Cutouts. A Hurst shifter above premium carpet and Chevelle themed floor mats. At the sides of that carpet, leather door panels center metallic trim and requisite handles on pliable armrests. In front of the driver, a classic look 3-spoke wheel laps a tilting Ididit steering column. And behind the passengers, a fully restored trunk features matching carpet. If you love muscle cars, you won't be able to live without this Chevelle! From its many subtle body modifications, to the beautiful billet aluminum dash, there isn't another Chevelle like this anywhere.
Here's the dash without the dash pad, the dash pad was in place to protect the new dash from sun cracks.
