This truck was not in a barn when found so “not” a barn find. My son worked at a used car dealer and met the then owner trying to work a deal on another vehicle and trade in. During the conversation the guy mentioned he owned an old Chevrolet Truck he wanted to restore but never got around to it.

The Story: The truck was sitting for several years as “Yard Art” to the side of a house. The current owner gave the details as follows: His uncle purchased the truck new in 1970. The truck was used in the family for many years specifically for camping and outdoor adventures with a camper as means to get out of the weather. Over the years 68,161 (said to be actual) miles were put on the truck before the camper eventually went away and the truck was left unattended for several years. The truck was purchased in 2011 as a project to eventually restore to” like new” condition by the gentleman we purchased it from. Like most projects……nothing was done to this truck for the past 6 years as it sat idle (other than a battery and I think tires).

I purchased the truck without being able to hear it run or driving it. I walked around the truck, hecked for overall condition, nd compared the story as told to what I was looking at. Great truck, reat shape, nbsp;and it was purchased.

Getting it ready to run: The old gas was removed and tank filled with fresh gas. The engine oil was drained and new oil and filter were installed. The transmission oil pan was dropped and a new filter, an gasket and transmission fluid changed. The radiator was drained and filled with new antifreeze. On quick inspection the engine appears to be original as it has never been out of the truck as far as I could surmise. The factory point style distributor was replaced at some point with an updated GM factory electronic ignition. All grease zerts in the suspension and the drive line u-joints were lubricated. The u-joints were checked for integrity.

The engine took more than a few cranks to fire the first time as the old residual gas in the lines made it through to the combustion chambers and the new gas came into play. The idle was amazingly smooth and the engine purred as it warmed up for the first time in many years. During warm up I noticed a little antifreeze drip from the lower radiator hose. A twist or 2 from a screw driver fixed it. No other leaks! I checked all of the lights and was surprised that all the lights worked and even the blinkers and brake lights function as normal. Note: The left blinker arrow light on the dash does not light up and probably needs a bulb. The right side works perfectly and the blinkers function correctly by themselves or with the hazards on.

I have driven the truck a few miles and started it a few dozen times and let it warm up. It runs strong, oes not seem to drip oil (some seepage on the pan), rives smooth, hifts good and solid, own shifts correctly, nd does not smoke at all out of the exhaust pipes! The power steering is smooth and the power brakes work as normal. There are no fan belt squeaks or foreign noises. I noticed a slight seep from the top front driver side of carburetor by the accelerator pump. Additionally, he truck has a slight stumble with quick acceleration at a low RPM. Yep, my thoughts) a quick carb kit and accelerator pump will cure both the stumble and the seep….you get to do it if you are the winner.

Condition: The interior is amazingly clean and shows very well. The interior paint is glossy, hiny, nd looks very nice. The glove box is intact and has the original build sheet information laminated on the inside door (see pics). The original steering wheel is cracked. The original dash pad is curling a bit in the corners but good shape. The seat has had a cover on it for many years. The integrity of the seat feels to be in good shape. I have not taken the seat cover completely off but pulled it back for pictures (see pics). A “Build Sheet” is still residing under the seat (see pics). The behind the seat fuel tank has the original cardboard cover over it and is flawless. The seat, or the fuel tank show any signs of ever being removed. The factory floor mat is in great shape and shows well. The factory tinted glass is all in great shape and windows work correctly but does take some muscle up and down (the driver side window roller knob is in the glove box). The rear cab glass has an old white decal that can be removed (it is Not etched into the glass, ee pics). The factory Air Conditioning is complete but the fan belt is missing and a visual check indicates the compressor clutch needs attention. The A/C system looks to be complete with no missing pieces. The fan speed switch for the Heat / AC is broken / missing. The other switches for defrost, ot, nd cold seem to function correctly. The bed has the original wood slats that have 46 years of patina, racking, ading, nd warping….just the way it should be! The exterior paint shows what appears to be a single repaint done many years ago. I cannot see any signs of bondo, oor body work, r areas that the truck might have been in an accident. All fenders, oors, nd body panels appear to be OEM factory. The factory chrome trim has some small dings and dents as expected. All the sheet metal is virtually dent free with just a couple of small dings / dents. The bug shield is old and broken. The heavy duty radial tires are great! Lots of tread and should last for years. NO cupping or uneven wear! The truck drives smooth with no pulling, ad noises, r vibration (I have had it to 50 mph). The factory chrome hub caps have 46 years of weather and surface rust. The outer body panels look solid with no visible cancer. The under carriage has rust in normal “46 year old Chevrolet truck” locations. Rockers, ab corners, heel wells, nd outer door skins appear to be solid and cancer free. The dual exhaust has “Old School” Cherry Bombs that were probably installed in the late 70’s. The engine, ransmission, nd 12 bolt rear end, ll look to be original to the truck.

I have seen many small block and 6 cyl trucks without A/C go for over my starting bid of $2800.00. This is a NO RESERVE auction. You, he ebay bidders, an determine what it's worth!

When your friends show up in a C10 with a 350 or 6 cyl....pop your hood and show them what real Chevrolet muscle looks like!

Thank you and Happy Bidding!!!
