Chevrolet Other Pickups 1950 Description

This is a truck that was purchased by one of my customers. He is now wanting to sell it but he has put a lot of money and time into getting it running again. As best we can tell it is a 1950 model but no VIN number has been found to verify this. Many 1950 parts did fit so that is what we are going with. It is a 5-window which is rare and is a 1 1/2-ton truck with dual rear wheels. There is a possibility that it was a dump truck or wrecker back in the day. The customer did buy a flatbed and had it installed. It has a 5th-wheel hitch in the bed. When it was brought in to our shop it was not running. First we rewired from a 6v system to a 12v system. Then we replaced the fuel tank fuel lines and fuel pump. Replaced the radiator with an all-aluminum replacement. New plugs/wires/distributor cap/rotor. New choke cable and knob. We were able to start truck but later because of various reasons we replaced engine with another used one that ran great. While doing that we also replaced the clutch and had the flywheel resurfaced. So engine runs good and does not smoke. Transmission shifts good. We also replaced the carburator with a new one a new distributor and a new starter. On then to the suspension. We replaced all four shocks installed kingpins and did a wheel alignment. New brakes master cylinder and brake lines. New coolant hoses and radiator hoses. New muffler and exhaust pipe.Inside the customer has had the seat recovered. New gauges installed new radio lighter assembly glove box speakers and turn signal switch.Basically a lot has been done to this truck and will now drive down the road. However more work needs to be done but that is what the fun is in owning these classics. The truck has been primered but it will need to be redone. The gauges are not installed in the housing since that was going to be painted and the gauges would have been wrapped to keep overspray off of them. The customer has purchased a lot of the parts that will be installed after painting. These include: headlamp bezel set door weatherstripping cab weatherstripping door glass assembly for the one window with broken glass window anti-rattle kit wiper arm window channel kit emblem kit gasket for the emblem rubber floor mat accelerator pedal brake pad shifter boot pedal pad antenna window handle door shaft gasket set and inside door handle. Some other issues: the heater core was taken to a radiator repair shop for a leak. However the fix did not work and the shop went out of business. As a temporary fix we installed a water shut-off valve. Some of the tires are good but some are not. All the wheels need to be replaced as they are very rusty and we have had a hard time keeping a seal around the rim. Steering the truck is has much to be desired but the condition of the tires may have a lot to do with that. All-in-all the customer has invested about $15000 into this project and that includes the spare parts that will be included in the sale to finish installing once the painting is done. He wanted to keep it till it was completed but circumstances have changed and he no longer has the time to finish it. There is no title at this time for the truck so buyer will have to obtain one through their state.
