Chevrolet Corvette 1968 Description
68’ Corvette 427 4speed convertible
- For Sale -
Over the 34 years that I’ve owned this beautiful C3, I’ve rebuilt the entire car from the ground up, in some cases, two or more times and from 2000-2003 I put it on blocks and dismantled the car restoring or rebuilding from the wheels to the radiator, the interior and a new Robins convertible top w/tinted window.
Since the rebuild in 03’ the car has been driven only from Marina del Rey to Ventura County line on the PCH, on average once every 2-4 weeks. Anything the car required it got. Oil changes so frequently the oil never looked used and I always added ‘Prolong’, octane boost, lead additive, gas treatments and carb’ cleaners etc.
The bottom-end of the engine was rebuilt by a highly respected specialty engineering company, known for building very tough bottom-ends.
The car has Balanced and Fluxed TRW pistons and connecting rods. Engle ¾ Street Strip cam, HD hydraulic Lifters and Springs, Weiand Action Plus high rise intake manifold, Holly HP 750 mechanical D/pump carb. MSD Distributor, MSD 6AL control box (with 5,000rpm limiter), MSD Blaster Coil, MSD 8.5mm Super Conductor leads, NGK BPR7ES Cool plugs. K&N Air Filter.
A Borg Warner Super T10 racing gearbox with Hurst Indy shifter, McLeod HD clutch and ‘Tom’s Differentials’ rebuilt and heat hardened 3:11 rr/end. Prop and half shafts were balanced.
Huge’ Bcool’ aluminium 3 row radiator with dual electric fans that actually keeps the engine cool, even in traffic. Heavy duty high volume water pump, thermostat, Billet aluminium recovery pot and new braided hoses. Custom under hood heads-up oil pressure and water temperature gauges.
Headman 2†ceramic coated headers, 2 1/2†20G aluminium coated steel pipes with Flowmaster Turbo mufflers and chrome tips.
Full Rancho ‘Stage 3’ suspension with massive anti-sway bars with adjustable eccentric aircraft bearings, Bilstien shocks, Rancho front cut coils, all bushings are Neoprene, heavy duty leaf spring, adjustable HD struts, upgraded brakes with DOT5 silicone brake fluid and rebuilt steering box, master cylinder and all steering components including wheel bearings.
The Trailing Arms were reinforced where the Rancho suspension attaches as it is incredibly rigid. Chrome 15â€X 8†30 spoke, chrome plated Weldwheel wheels, Front- BF Goodrich T/A Radials 265 50 15†front and BF G 295 50 15†rear tires.
Interior is in good condition, but could use a few things done, was restored in 2003 with new Foil Backed carpet underlay and grey carpets to re-upholstered seats. No cracks in the original black dashboard or console. Driver door panel has a small crack in it, passenger door panel is fine. Original ‘Astro Ventilation’ glass/seats. All interior cockpit lighting is in blue, 350 watt MTX amp, Pioneer 10 disk CD player, Corvette Edition Kenwood Digital, 1968 style Tuner/Cassette player and two 10â€speaker/Horn boxes in rear compartment in grey to match the carpet, sounds amazing!
Included is the have hard top (re-sprayed) and original 427 hood andoriginal/extra parts, including parts for the vacuum system which was disconnected/removed when rebuilding the engine, to improve horsepower and reduce weight. Consequently, both the headlight assembly and windshield wipers and wiper door open manually. All the hoses are still in place, the compressor and wiper door actuator and some related components are removed so a few new parts will be required to make them work properly.
The Chrome was triple plated (marine grade) back in the eighties and is in remarkable condition with almost no pitting or scratches. Most of the exterior parts are in good condition, rear lights and corner marker lights etc.
The car has just had a complete re-spray to the highest standard. (completed end of April 17)
The original paint was removed with a Dual Action Orbital air sander. No chemicals. The car was then blocked and some minimal body filling done at this time. Then four coats of 2 part Sealer Primer, then blocked out again. Then 4 coats of high build epoxy primer and blocked out again then detail work.
Prepped for paint and masked. 4 coats of BMW M4 Marina Blue and 4 coats of Lexus Blue for the stripe and detail work.
Then wet sanded to 1500 grit, machine polished and hand detailed for a perfect finish.
This car is stunning, quick, sounds great and is ready to drive and turns heads everywhere you go. The lights work but the vacuum system needs sorting out so the headlights lift and close and the wipers work, as does the wiper door opening mechanism. The interior is 90% as is the chrome.
A genuinely fantastic car, owned by me for the last 34 years and cared for without thought to cost. The new paint job looks incredible and the license plate is very cool too.
