Dodge Dart 1965 Description
When I was in high school. my parents moved into a very nice neighborhood and had an open house. The folks across the street came over and had the common courtesy to bring their super hot daughter. I wasted no time making a fool of myself for her and I was under the watchful eye of her father the whole time. He invited me out to his business in a nearby town. It was a factory he owned. The place was empty on this particular day and it occurred to me that. like all good fathers. he had brought me here to murder me over my interest in his daughter. Instead. he showed me his amazing collection of old cars. all in pristine condition. Convertible 57 Chevy's. a W31 Cutlass convertible. some cool hot rods. and more. 26 Cars in total. I asked him what his favorite one was and pointed to a prostreet 80's Chevy pickup truck. It was bright red. tubbed. tweed interior. and had digital dashes. It was definitely not my style. I couldn't understand how it could be his favorite out of all of these cars. He could see that on my face. So he took me for a ride. We idled out onto the state road in front of the shop. the big block loped angrily with a massive cam. He looked both ways for traffic and creeped out onto that highway. Then he stared at me and said "I know you don't get it yet. " And he mashed the gas pedal. There was a lot of engine noise but the old truck never moved. It was my first experience with line lock. Once the RPM's hit around 3500. the big red truck reached for the sky. The rear bumper dragged the pavement as the front wheels pulled several feet off the ground. The digital dash was showing 55MPH in big green numbers before the front end dropped enough for me to see the road. I'm sure there was quite a jolt as the front wheels touched down. only to lift slightly a second time as our speed continued to climb. but I felt no such jolt because I was now riding on a cushion of my own warm. well. you know. It scared THAT out of me. And I loved every second of it. From that moment in time. I was determined to someday have a car that would do a wheelie. and also to still date his daughter. Well. fast forward 25 years. and I blew it with his daughter and this is as far as I got to having a wheelie car. This car has been an altered wheelbase drag car since 1965. I was told the car ran one year as a 65 model and the next year they replaced the one piece fiberglass front end with a 1966 version and ran it as "new" once again. I'm told that the powerplant was a 426 hemi with Hilborn injection. That engine was replaced over the years with a 440 and 727 that still sit way back in the firewall today. The engine is set back. the front wheels forward. the rear wheels forward. a full cage. and the one piece fiberglass front end where the ticket to reaching for the sky and the reason I bought the car. It's the same year and model as Dick Landy's famous altered car. I have not been able to find out the history on this car. Maybe it's worth some money. Who knows? It's got a clear title and you could drive it on the street. But if you do. and you end up getting a date with my old neighbors daughter. PLEASE. I'm begging you. for the love of God. don't tell me. When I bought the car recently. it had the correct 15x3. 5 skinny Ansen wheels up front and stock steelies in the back. I bought some really nice original Ansen 15x10 in the correct pattern to go on the back. I also bought vintage Weiend timing cover to run injection again. It's the cool early Weiand that has "Say Why And" in the casting. I do NOT have a Hilborn. The 440 in it now has single four barrel. I don't know if the engine is good or not so count on NOT and then be happy if it is. But it is complete. The whole car seems complete. It's old and rough but all there and real. Seats. steering wheel. cage. etc. are just as it ran. Here's your chance to get an original AF/X early funny car for cheap. There is NO RESERVE. Bid to own it. I'm gonna post a whole bunch more pictures here tomorrow so hold your horses on the questions.
