Dodge Coronet 1965 Description
1965 Dodge Coronet AFX Tribute Car. This Bad Coronet was built to replicate the Altered wheelbase cars built by Chrysler Corporation to compete in the 1965 NHRA and AHRA "A" Factory Experimental class. These 1/4 killers were the first "Funny Cars," and actually were the name came from. It exploded from there and by 1966 all the big teams had full glass bodies and Logghe Tube Chassis. This car started from a rust free Coronet 2 door Hardtop. It was built the same way the factory cars were constructed, but to show quality standards with the intention of being a street car. The wheelbase was altered by moving the front wheels 10" forward and the rear 15" achieving optimal weight transfer. All metalwork was professionally done. Amazing body gaps and fitment throughout. The Hood, decklid, fenders, and bumpers are lightweight fiberglass. Custom House of Kolors Burnt Orange 3 stage paint shot by Rob "Magic" Knaskov. It is Stunning.. Fully sanded and buffed to perfection. Power is a balanced and Blueprinted 472 HEMI with a new Mopar Performance block, Manley "H" beam rods, JE 10.5 compression forged pistons, Stage 5 aluminum heads, and is a full roller with iskendarian cam. Induction is an original Magnesium Hilborn port injection converted to Electronic Fuel Injection with a Carabine management system. The complete fuel system was supplied by Hiborn. Transmission is a BUILT B&M 727 Torqueflight with 3000 stall convertor and reverse shift pattern. Custom Made exhaust with tuned headers Jet Hot coated front to back. Strange Engineering Dana 60 3.54 Sure Grip out back. Custom made K Member and straight Axle with Disc brakes. All front suspension components and K member were Jet Hot coated also. Car has Subframe connectors and 10pt cage with Crow Enterprises 5 point Harnesses. Factory Correct Super Stock interior right down to the A-100 seats. Interior sourced from Gary Ball. No Expense was spared building this Car, over $175,000 invested in the build. You will not find a nicer example anywhere. Truly a streetable car... it drives very nice, handles great, its quiet and rattle free inside the car (unless you are on the throttle!) and was built to run on 91 octane pump gas.If you have any questions about this or any of my other auctions please feel free to contact me via e-mail or you can call me at (520) 990-7932.
