Dodge Charger 1974 Description
1974 dodge Charger SE. Bought new on June 14, 1974 at Jenkins Chrysler Plymouth in Jackson Tennessee. Stayed there until about 4 years ago. I bought it from a guy who brought it to Nebraska. Runs and drives well and has no major rust issues other than the under side of the deck lid and a few spots under the vinyl top.318 V8, Automatic transmission. Has factory cruise and am- fm radio. Power steering, Power front disc brakes, air conditioning. Plan on restoring all options. Factory Buckets and console. Interior is in original condition and not too bad of shape. It is not all "Ratty"! Dash pad is cracked from the TN heat and the headliner has a section missing. The car has the factory W23 Rally wheels too. Has factory Dual exhaust, that I believe to be factory, New tires. Vinyl top, hood mount turn signals. SE Option package. Rear speaker switch too. Stock rear end.
Overall this is an original car with 80K plus miles. Those miles appear to be original as the car shows it overall. Most of the factory chalk or crayon marks are all present. It is solid and real tight driving down the road. The transmission shift very good and the car does have some get up and go. The engine is old and is getting tired. I would rebuild the carbeurator first. But, I drive it around town and does good. It does blow some smoke when you first start it after it sits. Has some oil seepage here and there. The brakes seem fine. Glass is all in good condition. All lights work and the horn is weak. Newer tires! 14 inch. All chrome is present and in good original condition.
The body is the strong point on this car. It had a very cheap paint job on it about 15 or so years ago. Receipt included. I see no evidence of any major bondo issues. The car is straight and solid throughout. There are some imperfections and paint paint is very faded. There is no damage on the car. And the areas that are prone to rot out, on this car, are very solid. The trunk lid has rust issues underneath. My body man could fix or maybe just find another lid. The car has a vinyl top. There are a handful of bumps underneath it but when you press on them they are not soft. Never the less it's there. I've seen much worse. The under body is excellent. Trunk floor is good too. All original sheet metal. Quarters fender etc. All VERY SOLID!
As far as paper work I have found 2 build sheets. Very poor condition and are in bags. I puzzled them together and found many of the options to be on the car. The fender tag is there and never been off. There is another fender tag with some stampings on it. Not sure what that means on this '74 Charger. I have the original purchaser agreement. Owners manual and some maintnence receipts over the cars life. I have a clear Ne title in my name.
2016 Marks the 50th anniversary of the Dodge Charger. The Charger is an iconic cornerstone for Dodge and is loved by millions. Although this isn't a Hemi 1970 Charger, it still has that classic Charger look that is to this day is being copied for new models. It will never be worth 6 figures, but is an affordable example of the classic Charger Muscle car era. This car, even in it's current state gets thumbs up just as much as my Hemi Road Runner!
The car is sold as is. Inspections are welcome. Just give me a heads up if this is what you want to do. Opinions on things vary, so an inspection is welcome. I believe this car is worth restoring back to original or maybe Pro Street it as it's a hell of a start. The car is 42 years old. And these are hard to find in this shape. But please don't expect a new car. It is being sold as a Classic Mopar needing restoration. I took many pictures so you look and decide if this is the Charger for you. I get a bit windy in my descriptions. But I want there to be no misunderstanding when you get the car. My Feedback is 100% Positive. You can never have too much information when dealing on the scary World Wide Web! My descriptions are as accurate as I can be.
