Dodge Challenger 1970 Description

This is the first time this car has ever been advertised on the internet or any other modern venue. It is a SURVIVOR 1970 Dodge Challenger Base model with the 318 and automatic transmission that has had a handful of changes here and there over the years. I will address the changes in this description so please read carefully. The car still retains it's original factory applied paint! The last several digits of the VIN are on the block. The original fender tag is present and still attached. No build sheet was found.
A white car with a striking resemblance to the original "Vanishing Point" Car. Of course without the R/T badging and power plant..... and Kowalski!
This car is a Los Angeles built plant car with "V7X" Factory PAINTED black pinstripe that is still 100% all there! Have you ever seen this?
I remember this car in the neighborhood in the early eighties. The guy I got it from bought it in 1982 and he was a neighborhood friend of a friend. So I've known this car for over 30 plus years. It was always garage kept, cleaned and babied. No funny interior smells and a fun driver that gets the attention!
The engine is the original 318. It was rebuilt in 1994 by a local well respected machine shop. The car has a little bigger cam etc to give it the ump of a 340. The transmission has a slight shift kit also. It runs and drives very well with the exception of the typical Mopar rear end howl. The original small rear end was upgraded to an 8 3/4 with sure grip and 3:23 gears. This was bought used when installed, thus, the howl. It also has a clunk in it when being put into gear. Several Mopars do this. I just want to be honest. It has a 340 Breather on it. And 4 barrel on an aftermarket intake. Dual exhaust sounds great, and has a very nice added dual exhaust lower valance with correct exhaust tips. Glass is great with the exception of a small windshield chip.
The interior is 75% original. The dash was swapped to the rally dash and the carpet was replaced in the early eighties. Still looks good. The seats appear to be factory with the exception of the driver bucket seat bottom. You wouldn't know this if I didn't tell you. Some yellowing on the seat piping. Small splitting here and there in the seams. Hard to notice. The dash pad and door panels were replaced. They are beautiful. The console is nice and solid. The rear package deck was covered in vinyl with speakers. It has an aftermarket Stereo Cassette that works ok. The fuel gauge don't work and the speedometer if not accurate. The speedometer needle is half cracked. The inside is very presentable and smells like a factory 70 Mopar! Headliner is original and awesome. All the other gauges work fine. Overall an original appearing '70 Challenger interior.
The body paint is well above average of what you'd expect for a 46 year old car. It still shines and is straight. It has it's share of nicks dings scrapes. Again this is original paint not restored. There is a rust spot behind the passenger side rear wheel way down low and some rust spots (NOT BAD ) around the lower part of the rear window. I dare not try to repair and compromise the original finish.! The trunk, floors and frame rails are fine. The car was undercoated in the trunk here and there and on the floor part. The neat option on this car is the factory painted on pinstripe. A guy sent me $50 to my paypal acct. for pics of this stripe! He's restoring one and his fender tag calls for the pinstripe. He's never seen a factory applied one! Neither have I until now!
The tires are 14 inch Radial T/A's. They are in great shape. Wheels are excellent. Probably could use a front end alignment and wheel balancing. The rear leaf springs should be re arched. Brakes seem ok and stops fine. Lights work, horn don't. Car drives well but at speeds over 60 it's a bit quirky. But certainly noting extreme.
I refer to this car as a "Survivor" with a few additions done over the years. I don't think the changes affect the car's personality or desirability.. You are welcome to come and see the car prior to auction end or send someone to see it for you. I'm a straight shooter in my descriptions and I get a bit windy in that description but you can never have too much information when it comes to the scary World Wide Web and I don't want there to be any surprises when you get the car. Please check my feedback, it's 100% positive. I own several other muscle Mopars and an unexpected new purchase in on the horizon. So I really don't have room for this one.
