Ford Mustang 1966 Description

This 1966 Mustang coupe is one of those cars that proves that less is often more. Gorgeous and beautifully appointed throughout, it shows you that you don't need stripes and bright colors to have a car that will stop people in their tracks when they see it. It's also quite fast, so you don't need to rely entirely on its good looks to attract attention. The color is from the GM palette and is called Medium Chestnut, and if you hadn't seen it on this car, you probably wouldn't pick it. But now that you've seen the warm metallic glow and how right it looks on the crisp Mustang sheetmetal, you're probably as surprised as we are by how much you like it. It's elegant and understated, just enough to offset the Shelby-style modifications made to the other parts of the car. Note the hood and side scoops, the hood pins, and the blacked-out Shelby grille, all designed to give this car a performance vibe without being too blatant about it. Workmanship is exceptionally good and you can tell that someone built this car for himself and took his time doing it, because the gaps are even, the paint has that look that only a well-prepped surface can deliver, and the shine means that a lot of time went into the final cut and buff. There's also plenty of chrome that sparkles against the Chestnut paint, again like an upscale machine you'd find in a high-end new car dealership. The builder totally nailed it with this one.Inside, the remarkable combination of beauty and original features continues. The Parchment and Palomino pony interior works just as well as the paint on the outside, delivering a wonderful contrast to the usual monochromatic Mustang interior. It's all new and quite nicely done, with smart upgrades that make it a pleasure to drive. A GT350 wood-rimmed steering wheel, accessory gauges, and a Hurst shifter suggest that it's built for combat, but there's also a well-disguised under-dash A/C unit and an AM/FM stereo with a CD changer in the trunk. Carroll Shelby decals cover the glove box lid, and we think if he saw the build on this car himself his first thought would probably be, 'Now why didn't I think of that?' The trunk is finished to stock specs with one of the neatest-fitting trunk mats we've ever seen, plus that aforementioned CD changer. That well-dressed small block is a freshly rebuilt 302 bored .040 oversize and fitted with an Edelbrock cam, intake, and carburetor, and an electronic ignition. A Cobra dress-up kit makes it look like one of Shelby's finest, and every single component was restored or replaced during the build, giving it a like-new look. It starts easily with a snarky bark from the Scott Drake headers and Flowmaster 44s, and with a Toploader 4-speed, you can bang gears all you like without fear of hurting it. The suspension is fortified with trailing arms, fresh bushings, big sway bars, plus massive 4-piston calipers on the power front discs. It crouches on a set of Magnum 500 look-a-likes and fat BFG radials all around.A gorgeous, first-class build that has resulted in a car that's more than the sum of its parts. If you're bored with Shelby clones and pretty but stock Mustangs, perhaps this one will light your fires. Call today!
