This is truly a one of a kind Model T center door RARE survivor with what I was told original miles and a great history that I will share with you.
The Center Door sedan is one of the more unusual of Ford's Model T body styles. Folklore has it that Henry Ford knew that people were still by in large uncomfortable with the automobile, and perceived them as unsafe. He reasoned that people had traveled by stage coach for centuries, and that by putting the door in the center of the body, like on a stage coach, the general public would feel more comfortable driving and riding in automobiles. Whether the story is true or not, I can not say, but the Center door is certainly one of the more unusual body styles ever offered by ford (or anyone else for that matter).
The history of this particular car goes back to two ladies from Milwaukee WI, who were school teachers, buying this new in 1920. In mid 1920 the car was in a minor accident with a street car(right rear dent size of a basket ball) After the car was repaired, the car was never driven again and put in storage as the two ladies were too afraid to drive it! The second owner bought the car in the late 30's and stored it until 1936 (he also never drove it) The third owner tom chorlabeck bought the car and kept it until around 1950 and then gave it to his son, Dean Chorlabeck. He owned it until 1971. He used it as I was told, as a parade/ Sunday driver. The forth owner, His brother in law, Bob Tallinger of Waukesha WI bought the car from him in 1971 and had the engine rebuilt and trans rebuilt and used it in Waukesha parades promoting his tavern and restaurant business until 2005 when he sold it to me. I was not into Model T's and I really had no idea how to drive a Model T but he knew I had a collection of classic cars and insisted that I come look at it as he knew I would appreciate the history and feel of the car. I loved it at first sight and added it to my collection. He assured me, the wood is the original wood and interior is original. The patina is to die for on the car. He convinced me to leave the originality and to do anything to this car would be a mistake.
THIS IS A TRUE SURVIVOR that drives and runs like a dream. It has the RARE SPEEDOMETER (you can see the gears that make it work on right front axle) This also has the rare marble interior dash light. All of the lights, brakes etc work. The door shut and open and latch smooth the way they should. Glass looked good. This car still retains the original window shades. I am leaving the original plates and plate toppers with the car, including the RARE STOP brake light. Really neat. This Model T center Door starts with the magneto or hand crank. It has a new 6 volt battery. I have stored it since 2005 in my indoor climate controlled showroom other than taking it out for local parades or to park in front of my dealership a holiday day etc. I never noticed any leaks under the car. The engine runs like a dream with no knocks misses or smoke. The car shift low high reverse etc the way it should. See the video as I had it going 50 mph at one point.
I am only selling this car as I am expanding my classic car showroom and the funds from this sale will help absorb some of the cost. IT will be greatly missed!
