Consul Capri 1962 English Ford rare classic rust-free California car runs well

Ford Other 1962 Description

This rare and unusual car is a 1962 English Ford Consul Capri. It has a clear title and is currently registered in California. It is left hand drive with a floor shift. It is a model 110E the Vin #Z38B-458472 paint code BH Trim 148A and has a body tag reading TC/149/A. Another body tag reads “322/ LHD 3100”. It has the 1340 CC engine. The mileage is 86954 miles. It has what appears to be the remains of the original paint (it doesn’t look as glossy as in the photos it just had a bath.) a Motorola AM radio a spare tire and the original jack.

UPDATE; 5/16/15. I installed new brake hoses and the car can be safely driven but it should still get a hydraulic rebuild. I added photos to the Photobucket album taken underneath the car of the floor and trunk areas that seem to rust out on other Capris butare not rusted on this one.

This car was parked in a barn in 1971 and will need more work(hopefully a full restoration) but it now runs and drives. It does not include the 5 Lbs of almonds the mice hid inside. Oddly they did not eat the wiring and the harness looks good.

I have rebuilt the carburetor re-brushed the starter installed new radiator hoses put rebuild kits in the hydraulic clutch system installed a battery and put lightly used tires on it. It shares many parts with other English Fords such as the Cortina.

You are welcome to have an appraiser or mechanic come and inspect the car at your expense. I was the mechanic machinist and welder for a well known nearby Lotus shop for many years and know a bit about English vehicles.

THE GOOD; It runs well does not smoke goes through the gears without noise or problems handles reasonably well and does not appear to be missing any parts not listed below. It is rust-free except for a 2 inch hole in the inner fender wall by the battery. The missing hubcap and ring are on the way and will be on the car before the auction ends.

THE BAD; The brake system needs to be rebuilt the Master should be rebuilt and i expect the slaves and calipers to start seeping. I replaced all brake hoses. The fuel tank is heavily clogged with varnish and crud and needs to be boiled out. I installed a 3 gallon marine gas tank in the trunk to test drive it and that is included and will work for safe transport. Both bumpers have damage and one over-rider is missing. There are minor dents all around and the left side need extensive body work. The interior is serviceable but shabby at least it will make good patterns for re-upholstery. The vinyl dash has cracked but they fixed it with electrical tape! The Ashtray is missing. The gas cap is missing. The ignition switch was replaced poorly. The radiator will need to be re-cored. The trunk lock cylinder has been forced open and works but won’t lock. There is no key for the doors either and the left side lock is probably inside the door. The good used tires I installed are studded snow tires great for moving it around and ice racing but noisy and perhaps not road legal where you live? You can always pull the studs out with wire cutters and use them for rally racing.

THE UGLY; Did I mention the left side? There is very light surface rust in many places where the paint has either failed or has otherwise been removed.

You should investigate and estimate shipping before bidding. You may come and get it. I am willing assist you or your shipper. I am located in Hathaway Pines California 95233 on the State Highway with easy access for trucks. I can haul it myself for the greater of $200 or $2.00 per mile but the company “U-Ship” is probably cheaper. I will deliver to the nearest shipping port Oakland California for $300 or Long Beach California for $900 but you can have someone else get it.

The last truck I sent to England two years ago I believe cost around $1200 for container shipping from Oakland.
