Ford Mustang 1967 Description

1967 Ford Mustang GT
1967 Ford Mustang GTA

This is a great opportunity to purchase a very nice and rare Classic Mustang. The Ford Mustang GTA was a 1-year only designation - 1967. Before and after that, a GT was a GT whether it had a manual transmission or an automatic transmission. In those days, it was considered an upgrade to have paid for the automatic transmission option and Ford acknowledged that by creating the Mustang with the Grand Touring Automatic designation.

1967 Ford Mustangs are among the most sought after body styles created and having an upgraded model such as a GT or GTA is not just a feather in your cap at the Car Shows and Cars and Coffee events, but a great investment as well when well kept.

This Pony was purchased with the intent of a nice restoration, while driving and enjoying the car. The fact that it is a factory big block car, a Marti Report Verified Factory GTA and the original color combination of Vintage Burgundy with Light Parchment interior was all just too good of an opportunity to pass up.

As you'll see below, this car is already a long way from where it was when I bought it, but due to a change in plans, I'm not going to finish this one. As it sits, it is a gorgeous car with fresh paint and clean interior that will run and drive reliably. In fact, it's an excellent sunny day driver as it sits.

It's assumed that - as so many big block cars of the 1960's went - the original 390 was either blown up or simply removed due to gas shortages of the early 1970's. I have traced ownership history back to 1983 or 1985 and at that time it had already had the 289 in it.

Based on the Marti Report, the apron stamping under the hood and the original door tag, we do know that this car did come off the assembly line as a big block car though and the plan was to put one back in it. That's a job for the next owner to take on however, if they choose.

The 289 runs great. It has had a recent tune up, a carb rebuild and a detail. A new timing chain cover and water pump was also installed as well as a new radiator... just because I wanted to drive it without worrying. It runs and drives great with great oil pressure. No noises or problems.

C4 Automatic Transmission, finds it forward and reverse gears, no problems. Backed by the original 9" rear end with big brake drums and 3.00 standard gear set.

Inside, you’ll find that the car retains original Light Parchment Deluxe Interior with rare bench seat. Comfortweave upholstery in great shape. Overhead console, Deluxe Door Panels and inserts, Deluxe dash inserts, Deluxe upholstery shifter handle and Stereo/CD player and rear deck speakers added. Very clean inside.

Please ask any questions that you may have prior to making a bid or an offer. I welcome any reasonable questions and I'll assist a serious buyer in any way possible to help them make the best decision regarding the purchase of this car.

----- HISTORY -----

As mentioned above, I bought this car with the intention of a nice restoration while driving and enjoying it. It was never intended to be a #1 show car, but more of a nice, sunny day cruiser that I'd take to local events.

Below you'll see the car as it was when I purchased it from the same owner/family since 1983. The car had been painted Red around 1985 and it ran and drove great. Hood pins were added and the GTA badges and stripes were gone. But it was a good solid car that required no rust repairs.

I also included photos of the car at the paint shop where the front fenders were removed. You can see that the fender aprons, frame rails and radiator support are solid, straight and original. The car has never been wrecked or rusty. The floors, frame rails and torque box are also super solid. No rust issues on this car.

There is a Marti Report, shown in the auction and I can email it to you as well and there is a folder with some original documentation that will be included with the car.

The last photo is of the car in 1985 when the car was in the process of being color changed to Red and right above that is the car as it looks today.
