HISTORICAL SIGNIFICANCE...The jet-age look of the 1961-1962-1963 Thunderbirds - with their dramatic "after-burner" tail-lamps and clean flanks set a whole new "less is more" design standard that took the rest of the industry several years to catch up with after its preoccupation with fins and chrome. Thunderbirds were the new style leaders and the newly coined "Unique in all the World" slogan was no idle boast, for there was nothing else like the T'Bird. No other car had the sport-luxury-personal-car niche as locked down as the T'Bird. And the swing-away wheel was strictly space-age stuff - not to mention the "cockpit" inspired interior and wrap-around dash-console. Too cool! Even today - 54 years later - it wows folks of ALL ages. Kids may not know when it was built or what it is, but they know it's cool, and their jaws drop and thumbs go up everywhere it's seen. Perhaps best of all, this was a very high quality car...built exclusively in Lincoln's Wixom, Michigan plant and nowhere else. It received the same lavish attention to detail as the Lincolns - which already had been recognized by many automotive authorities as the most carefully built production cars in the world.
GENERAL OVERVIEW & DRIVE REPORT...this is a rather special 1962 model, having been completed very early in the 1962 model run on July 30, 1961. It was delivered to Ford's Charlotte, North Carolina District Sales Office. The solidness of the car throughout is testimony of a life that has likely always been in the south. Southern cars - like California cars - are highly sought-after for their rock-solid bodies and frames. With it's performance-minded $12,000 rebuild...the engine is remarkably responsive and powerful. It keeps up with modern cars on modern highways quite well and is a joy to drive. To completely hide the convertible top in the trunk was a Thunderbird/Lincoln exclusive at the time. NO convertible ever looked as sleek as this T'Bird with the Sports Roadster Tonneau in place! The top mechanism is complex, but this car has addressed that complexity in several ways to make it very reliable. First, the old relays were replaced with brand new ones mounted on a panel like the one shown at left. Then, the deck-lid lock receptacles (which have a habit of sticking in some cars) were removed as unnecessary owing to the excellent fit of this particular car's trunk lid, and the fact that the hydraulic cylinders which raise the deck-lid are more than sufficient to hold it in place (NOTE...the screw-type locking pins on the deck lid are operational...so if the new owner decides to install a set of lock receptacles, it's easy). Next, fail-safe button-type controls in the console will operate all top functions in an emergency. There is also an additional fail-safe control in the trunk to operate the flip lid with a "helping hand" should your battery every get low. In sum, you have factory one-button control of the top whenever you desire, with the aforementioned fail-safe back-ups if ever needed. You can drive this T'Bird convertible with more assurance of full top operation than any other T'Bird convertible we've ever seen! Finally, there are just a few non-operational items: the clock, windshield washers, and temperature gauge (Note: the illuminated auxiliary Temp and Oil Pressure gauges installed under the dash are fully operational).
CLEVER AUDIO...not wishing to modify the interior look in any way, brand new electronics for AM-FM Stereo were installed within the original radio! The original controls operate the new innards. Computer-monitor sized speakers hide beneath the front seats and keep the doors/dash free of unsightly speaker add-ons.

ABOUT ME: I am an avid car enthusiast. After retiring from 30 years of sales and marketing in a Global 100 company, I formed Murphy Endeavors, LLC and began buying and selling classic cars as a collector and for friends and clients. This gorgeous T'Bird belongs to a friend and fellow member of the local T'Bird club. Please note that we have had over 2,600 eBay transactions with happy folks and have sold classic cars to eBay customers in Brazil, Sweden, Switzerland, France, Germany, Australia, Russia, Canada, Japan, and throughout the United States. IMPORTANT FINAL REMARKS, CONDITIONS OF SALE, and VIN NUMBER DETAILS...the Buyer will receive a Notarized Bill of Sale and the original Georgia Motor Vehicle Registration. NOTE: Georgia does not require titles for 1962 vehicles and indicates those cars for which titles are not issued as "(NON-TITLE)" vehicles on their registrations. Thus the Motor Vehicle Registration for a 1962 classic such as this, also serves as the government-issued evidence of ownership. PLEASE HAVE REALISTIC EXPECTATIONS...though this 1962 Ford Thunderbird has been rebuilt/refinished/restored to high standards - it remains a 54 year-old automobile. The need for repairs and maintenance with any vehicle is an ongoing activity - often required without notice. What is operational one day, may not be the next. "Surprises" happen often with decades old classic cars. Many of us in the collector community have close emotional ties with these cars, and we would love for them to be "perfect", but the car was not "perfect" in 1962, and it cannot be "perfect" now. Therefore, this sale is strictly on an as-is and final basis with no warranties or liabilities expressed or implied. ODOMETER NOTE: Due to the age of this vehicle - and the mechanical limitations of the odometer's design - the odometer reading cannot be relied upon to indicate accurate mileage since new.
Every effort has been made to present this classic car completely and accurately to the best of our knowledge and resources, but errors and oversights are possible. Therefore, pre-purchase examination of the vehicle is welcomed and encouraged before the listing's end and can be easily arranged by appointment. QUESTIONS?
