Mercury Grand Marquis 1971 Description

Here is a very nice and original Mercury Marquis with 58K ORIGINAL MILES on it. Garage kept its entire life until I acquired it two weeks ago. Last tagged in 1995 and sitting in the garage since then until now. The couple that owned it bought a newer car and parked this one. It is straight and beautiful and unlike the others listed here on ebay that are 1973 and above this one has the flush mounted bumpers instead of the 5 mph bumpers that stick out from the cars body. It also does not have all the extra smog junk that came on the 73's and later under the hood. It is powered by the 429 engine. Last owner put a carb kit in it and a fuel pump a year ago to play with it but stopped there. I pulled the valve covers off and pre oiled the rockers, underside rockers, tops of springs, and shot a bunch of oil down pushrod holes to lube lifters and cam. Buttoned it back up with new valve cover gaskets. Changed some fuel lines, put gas in it and fired it up. It really runs smooth and no smoke. I have not touched the motor other than that and it does not have grease or grime anywhere, it also has many of its original engine stamps, clamps, and stickers. Transmission shifts fine. I also just put a new master cylinder on it and brakes are working. It was originally a white car and was repainted baby blue some time ago. Interior is black and in pretty decent shape, dash has no cracks, door panels look nice, rear seat and package tray are nice, headliner is nice. A seam is splitting on drivers side seat. Chrome plastic between armrests and door panel flaking and or discolored. Radio works. Headlight covers go up and down. Power windows work. . I had to put one new tire on it as one tire popped. The other three hold air but I will put three more new tires on it if car gets bid over $2500. Now the bad of the car is this, the drivers door window was busted out at some point and a cat has sprayed in the car. I have washed down the entire interior and used some odor removing spray on carpet but I can still smell it. I will continue to try and get the stink out until car gone so wish me luck. I have bypassed the heater core box for safeties sake as condition is unknown. Wipers work. No RUST anywhere on this car and underneath is clean and solid. Trunk is solid. Hard to find them like this and if you want an early Marquis this is the best because of the flush bumpers and lack of smog equipment!
