Mercury Other 1969 Description

For sale: Rare 1969 Mercury Cyclone Spoiler Cale Yarborough Special NASCAR edition. Lifelong dry central Montana car with Marti report. A local friend purchased it from the original owner 25 years ago, I hauled it home for him. He stored the car in his garage for 10 years, then sold it to another friend who stored it in a barn another 10 years. I tired of seeing such a rare car sit fallow, and bought it 5 years ago in very original condition. Original manual/warranty booklet included, and the car is in the Talledega/Spoiler wing car registry. I had the the mechanicals checked and freshened where needed and had it painted, and have been taking it to cruise nights and weekend shows ever since. It's an enjoyable driver quality car that gets compliments wherever I go. Gets more looks at the gas station than any Shelby or Boss I've owned. The first thing people want to know is if it's a real Cale Yarborough Special- and yes it is! I have a large collection of old cars and trucks, and since I'm not Jay Leno, have to sell one occasionally. This is one of those times - and a great opportunity to get a rust free, unique car and a piece of history, for the price of a plain vanilla Mustang coupe.
Exterior: Nice shiny paint and looks good with no major flaws or issues. Panel gaps are not Barrett Jackson, but good enough for cruise nights or local weekend shows- not concours by any means. I won a trophy in a small show with it. When I got the car, I had it repainted at a local shop, no bodywork needed and NO rust - I mean zero. In this arid land, we only see about 10 inches total moisture per year and sand, not salt, is used on the roads, plus the car was stored for the last 25 years. We just don't see much rust here. Underside pics are included in the Photobucket album linked below. It has the correct original hood scoop and unobtanium rear spoiler. Way back when the car was near new, it was sideswiped and had the driver rear quarter replaced at the local small town Ford dealer with an NOS panel. There were some rivets used in spots, as was the custom back then, and they are visible in the trunk and door jamb if you look closely- not noticeable to the casual observer. Car looked good enough to me and I left it alone when I had it repainted. Hard to find grille is in good condition. Chrome is very good with no pitting, hood molding has a ding and bumpers are original and are scratched/dull. Factory style steel wheels/trim rings/caps as shown in good condition, original plain "no-gt" caps are included but some dings in two of them. Boss style Magnum 500 wheels shown are NOT included, I ran them on the car a while back. Original glass is good with a few scratches on driver door glass.
Interior: Original and driver quality. I had the front seats professionally redone with the correct materials from SMS, and extra dark red comfortweave material included. No cracks in dash, presents well and looks good. Original carpet has wear and would need to be replaced for serious show duty, as would headliner as it has a seam that split going down the road with the windows down and was temporarily restitched. Everything works as far as I know except radio stopped tuning, I sourced another radio and that will be included. Car has the typical lift up on the shifter to start it neutral safety switch thing. Hard to find original jack and lug wrench still in the trunk.
Mechanical: Starts/runs/drives out great. I had the car gone through by a local mechanic for trouble free cruising, and I've put a couple thousand miles on over 5 years. Engine and trans were checked and new seals installed where needed. Radiator, fuel pump, heater core, hoses, belts, etc were replaced. I had a few performance upgrades done to make the car perform like a big block -bigger cam, aluminum intake, era correct Muscle Parts C90F Holley and dual point distributor. It also had all new 2.5" dual exhaust and Flowmasters installed for a menacing rumble. Engine is very healthy, no issues, era-correct 69 date coded block/heads/manifolds, I have the original undamaged numbers matching block and it goes with the car. Original transmission and 3.25 9 inch rear work well. I can ship the original block on a half pallet truck via freight at buyer's expense. I don't think it would be a good idea to put it in the trunk. I also have the correct air cleaner, valve covers, heat shield, intake manifold, and other under hood bits. Could use rear springs, air shocks installed currently. There is a tire shake at certain speeds and tire shop isolated it to a slightly bent front wheel. I sourced another wheel and that will be included. Tires are in good condition and are 245/60 rear and 205/70 front.
Pricing/Misc: If you're looking for a perfect show queen, this is not your car. If you want a unique driver that will stand out among a sea of belly button cars at events, this might be your car. I spent a bunch of money making this car good enough to enjoy, and have receipts for $16.5k invested in the car, reserve is MUCH lower for quick sale - reserve is about what an everyday early Mustang coupe sells for these days, or about the price of a good paint job alone. I see these cars all over the map pricewise - from $35k up but almost never under $20k. In my opinion a good investment car that hasn't peaked yet and has room to grow in value over time. You are welcome and encouraged to personally inspect the car prior to bidding.I'm not a dealer, I don't do this for a living, I'm an enthusiast. If you'd like any detailed photos of a specific area of the car, just ask! I have many photos of it but will be glad to take more if needed. Please ask any questions you like before bidding. You will be answered quickly and honestly.Transport isreadily availableandprobably cheaper than fixingmajorroton a Midwest or East Coast tetanus car. While the car runs and drives well, it's not a good plan to fly in and drive it home since it's an old rig, and stuff happens. Cell service is poor in Montana and it's a long way between towns. Montana title isclear with no liens. After the sale, I can store the car for up to 30 days free, after that $100 per month storage will be due. Buyer needs to get insurance as soon as car is paid for as I will cancel mine at that time.
