Oldsmobile Ninety-Eight 1962 Description

I am re-listing (with a lower reserve) my 1962 Oldsmobile Ninety Eight Six-window Holiday sedan (pillarless hardtop), hich is one of the prettiest GM body styles of the early/mid 60s. All the glass and huge vistas all around makes quite an impression for the driver and passengers.
I purchased this car as a well-preserved original vehicle from the family of the late owner. He was an aircraft engineer in Long Beach, nd the car spent its entire life in Southern California.
Since I purchased approximately two years ago, have repaired/replaced the following:
New Paint (car was originally white from the factory, as repainted in Sahara Mist, factory color available with the fawn interior)
New upholstery on front and rear seats
New Carpet
New Water Pump
New Radiator
Four New Coker Classic Tires
Four 1962 Olds Spinner Wheel Covers (car originally had four dog-dish caps with beauty rings, nd are available if buyer wants)
New rubber door seals, runk seal, nd bumper fillers at the ends of front and rear bumpers
New Battery
New Belts and Hoses
Rebuilt Carburetor
All four wheel cylinders replaced
New brake shoes
Here is my description of the vehicle condition:
Engine/Transmission
Odometer shows a little over 79,500 miles, nd appears to be correct. The car starts and runs well, ngine is extremely quiet at idle and while running. The engine does drip a small amount of oil while sitting. Car does not smoke while starting, dling, r running. The engine has a lot of power and pickup. There is no lifter noise at idle or while running. The Olds Hydramatic transmission (Rotomatic/Slim Jim) is actually kind of fun to drive- it has a light, porty feel to it, nd is extremely smooth shifting, nd easily changes gears with the selector. The emergency brake seems to work, he light comes on that it is set and releases with the pull.
Body:
This is a very clean California Car from new. The body is super straight. I do not note any dents or dings, r rust noted in the body. The chrome and stainless trim is in excellent shape. I note that the rear bumper might need to be straightened. The Olds Rocket crest on the passenger side is missing one of its wings, ut it took me months before I noticed it. The doors, runk, ood all open and close easily. The antenna has been replaced at some point with another antenna that looks okay, ut I might change it out if I were to keep it. Headlights, ailights, urn signals, nd brake lights all function properly. The glass is all in good shape.
Interior:
The front and rear seats were reupholstered in correct factory materials from SMS. The door panels are original, nd have watermarks. The carpet was replaced approx two years ago. The trunk does not have any lining in it at all, ut the cardboard side panels are present. The dash pad is original and in excellent shape. All the power window switches work, indows go up and down easily. The wind wings crank open and close easily. The dash lights all work properly at night (you should see the lucite NINETY EIGHT lit at night!). The radio lights up but does not play, r even hum. The power seat (4 -way) goes up and down and back and forth. The floor mats are from a 1962 Starfire. The glove compartment lock is fussy to open and close. The steering wheel has some cracking/crazing in it. The horn works (a three-tone Italian trumpet horn is installed under the hood). I cannot say that the ventilation or heater work. The headlight switch and high beam floor dimmer work properly. The clock does not function, ut I have a NOS clock that will go along with the car, ut am not sure if it works, ither. The fuel gauge works, nd seems to read correctly. The vacuum trunk release does not work. The trim around the windshield interior has some putting. The paint on the dashboard near the ignition switch is worn through (I like the way it looks). The lighter in the dash works, ut the rear passenger lighter does not work. The self-retracting seat belts are non-stock, ut are Fisher Body, rom a late 60s Riviera. The doors all lock and unlock with the push knobs. The original key opens both front door locks. The windsheld wiper switch is fussy. Sometimes it takes several tries to turn it off. I have been unable to locate a new switch. Both interior dome lights work when door is open closed, nd from the headlight switch. The light in the trunk works. I cannot remember if the underhood light works- I think it does, ut only if the headlights are on.
Overall, his is a very solid car that constantly turns heads, nd is very driveable, nd lots of fun to cruise around it. It could easily be taken to the next level with some interior work, hough in its present condition is quite presentable. Please feel free to come and inspect the car in person in Palm Springs. Make any inquiries before you bid (or have won the auction).
