Oldsmobile 442 1969 Description

West Coast Classics are proud to present an absolutely exceptional example of this original southern California and completely rust free coveted original California 'black license plate' 1969 Oldsmobile 442 Convertible with it's original 400ci/325HP 4 barrel 'rocket' engine with only 91K original miles! An original California car since new with one southern California owner since 1980 who kept a thick file of service history and records on the car. Still titled in its rare original 'California Pink Slip' and loaded with factory options including front bucket seats with center console, power windows, power steering, power brakes, power soft top, power antenna and air conditioning!
Finished in it's original factory 'Cameo White' color paint with a painted Blue sports stripe and with it's original factory 'Blue' color vinyl bucket seats and boasting it's completely original interior. Reportedly purchased by only it's second southern California owner from it's original California owner on 7/6/1980 with the original owner's manual and a thick file of service records showing that at no time was any expense spared on this particular car's preventive maintenance history and an obviously always garaged car!
The floor boards, trunk and all the typical rust-prone areas are completely solid and rust-free and the car has no signs of any accidents - obviously a garaged and cherished southern California driver only. The car looks extremely impressive with it's original 'Cameo White' color paint with a painted Blue hood sports stripe and the original 'Blue' interior is in exceptional and virtually completely original condition throughout, apart from an after market radio/cassette (see photos below). The complete interior including the dashboard itself, the carpets and all the seats and door panels are in absolutely exceptional condition with virtually no signs of any significant wear and tear. All the chromework is also in exceptional condition and the original spare wheel with it's jack is in the trunk.
The reportedly original matching # 400cid 4 barrel engine (with correct 396026 casting number for a 1968-69 400c.i. 442 engine) and still correct factory Oldsmobile 400 Rocket Bronze colors is extremely strong and powerful and this particular car drives absolutely magnificently - must be driven to be believed - drives straight as an arrow with no strange road wobbles, shakes or rattles - a truly remarkable daily driver that will give any modern day sports car a run for it's money!
The Oldsmobile 442 was born out of the competition between the Pontiac Division and Oldsmobile. It began as a response to the Pontiac Tempest GTO which had proved such an unexpected success in 1964. The package was dubbed the 4-4-2 based on it's combination of four barrel carburetor, four speed transmission and dual exhausts. The package also included a stiffened frame, boxed rear suspension control arms, a heavy duty clutch and four speed manual transmission, a heavy duty driveshaft, oversized brakes and heavy duty suspension package with heavy duty wheels, higher rate coil springs front and rear, heavy duty shock absorbers, a large front anti-roll bar and an additional rear anti-roll bar. The 442 became a separate model from 1968-71. It would rival any other muscle car
of it's day and has a large and enthusiastic club following.
This particular car has rare factory air conditioning, power steering, power brakes, a power convertible soft top with it's original tonneau cover and a power antenna. Owned for over 37 years by only one southern California owner - never raced or abused - babied all the way! Although obviously not a concourse example, this remains a very rare and highly desirable and collectible unabused and very original example of one of the outstanding muscle cars of the sixties, which has high repute amongst collectors for both it's beautiful lines and smooth fast performance for a luxury muscle car with this particular example boasting all the creature comforts whilst remaining a true 1960's muscle car!
In summary, this is one great daily driving example of an original southern California 'black license plate' car which was always garaged and is completely rust free in rare virtually completely original condition throughout! A sure-fire investment that's sure to appreciate over the years for any classic American sixties muscle car collector or simply the perfect candidate for any Oldsmobile or American muscle car enthusiast to fully restore!
