Oldsmobile Eighty-Eight 1958 Description
Near Complete car. body pretty straight. optional factory roof rack. optional transportable slide out of dash radio. Only 5. 75 were ever produced in this model. The station wagon bodies for these were manufactured through Ionia and its related coachwork companies as early as 1938. starting with woodie station wagons before eventually offering all-steel wagons from the late 1940s through the mid-1960s. My opinion is this is a great investment car! I did some research on auctions over the last 5 years and it looks like prices have doubled with sales on the few that have come up running high even with light restorations and cars into 6 figure prices. The positives on this car are: Pretty straight body with only one small bondo spot on the front of the hood. Factory color is highly desirable (Rose Mist & Tropical Mist). For a car of this age. most of the rust is just surface rust and I've only seen one small spot rusted through on a rocker. Most all of the chrome trim is there along with proper logos and names (on the front hood. the missing S is in the ashtray). The factory roof rack is very rare with under chrome strips is all there and gives it the Nomad look. The transporter (slide out of dash) radio is way cool and a rare option. All of the interior is there so you have a great pattern to follow for restoration. The headliner is there but fell out with the interior lights etc. The passenger headlight bezel is not showing in the pics but it is included. The original wiper arms were not shown but also included. The dash and gauges are intact and the only thing missing is a standard radio knob. The original steering wheel is there. The negatives are: It has been parked since 1970 so much will have to be serviced to be road worthy. It has flat tires so it will need some to be a roller for transport. It has a non original motor under the hood which I was told was about a 1960 version. They never completed installing it so I cannot attest to it being the right answer however. I do have 3 other 58's for sale here on ebay at low cost start prices if you want a donor car for a period motor. This car is part of a family estate and I am the one chosen to market it. I was not in the family when it was parked so I have gathered info via interviews with the children (who rode in the back without seat belts and lived)! Anyway. just saying that I have been as honest as person who wasn't there so I might have missed a fact or problem that I didn't know about!Domestic or International Purchasers are welcome but funds must be cleared before she rolls. A wire transfer or certified bank check drawn on a bank with a branch within 50 miles of here are prefered payment methods. I retain the right to refuse any questionable fund transfer. This auction is for "as is" - "where is" so if you are shipping they need to come here and pick it up. There are no returns and no guarantees. it is a vintage car for restoration. The rockers had two small rust through's one on each side a couple of inches long. Since the carpets are down and mostly still intact I was limited on what I could see of the floors but I was able to lift up the drivers side and saw surface rusting but no rust through spots. I could just lift a corner on the passenger side and it was even cleaner. Also. good news. I found the key under the mats that works the ignition and the doors!
