Pontiac GTO 1965 Description
This is my 1965 GTO Hardtop, original 23737 car with PHS documents.Originally and still teal turquoise with black bucket seat interior.Originally 389-4V,4 speed M20 wide ratio trans. and 3.23 Safe-T-Trac diff..Now has a rebuilt 1970 455 (YH) engine (bored .030 over to 462 C.I.) with a 1965 tripower setup, original 4 sp. trans.and a 3.55 Safe-T-Trac rear diff. from a 1969 GTO Judge.I have owned this car since 1978.I bought it with a blown rearend and installed the 1969 rearend. It also had a non original 400 engine that was getting tired after a couple of years so instead of rebuilding that engine I bought a 1970 455 and rebuilt that.Cleaned up the cylinders with a .030 overbore and installed new forged pistons.Crankshaft reground.Installed rebuilt 1968 #16 large valve cylinder heads,Crane cam with 450/465 lift and 288/300 duration and a 1965 tripower setup. Also installed HD oil pump, bronze dist. gear, full windage tray and crankshaft scraper.I still have the machine shop receipts from 1981.Also installed recored Harrison 4 row radiator,Hooker headers,Hays clutch,a scattershield, had the original Hurst shifter rebuilt by Hurst, and a driveshaft loop as I intended to go drag racing.Only went a couple of times before Ct. Dragway closed though with a best time of 13.8 (amateur driver with street tires ).Engine has only about 10,000 miles.Low option car with the only 5 options being:4 speed trans.,Safe-T-Trac diff.,pushbutton AM radio(works),reverb and rally gauges with tachometer (tach is not accurate-reads about 400 RPM higher). All other gauges work.Other things I added were Rally I wheels with like new vintage 225/70/14 front and H-78-14 rear tires,a larger front sway bar and a 1970 GTO rear sway bar and boxed control arms and a Pontiac sport wood steering wheel-has cracks,I put a leather cover on.Drive as is or restore.Does need bodywork and paint.I did some amateur bodywork on the driver side 1/4 panel years ago and primered it and it's in need of repairing or replacing as does the passenger side.I also patched the trunk floor in 2 areas, the rest is solid.Needs main floor pan and braces.Frame is solid, just surface rust.Other rust areas are the panel at bottom of windshield (water leaks on front floor),lower fender corners, left fender upper inside (with hood open),bottoms of doors, mainly the lower rear corners.Bumpers need rechroming, needs carpet, headliner, weatherstripping.Seats and door panels are in good condition.(driver seat has small split starting).Recent new parts are:4 wheel cylinders, front brake shoes and rear brake flex hose, master cylinder rebuilt, fuel pump, fuel tank sending unit, oil and temp. sending units and trunk weatherstripping.Aditional parts included are heater box(inner and outer with heater core)-original rusted thru at bottom from seeping heater core, set of headers-Hookers have leaks at collectors, patched to make better but still leaking a bit,new trunk mat,new dash woodgrain piece, lower inner 1/4 panel patch panels, gas tank supports and straps.Car runs like a bear but carburetors probably could use rebuilding, sometimes stalls at idle.I don't have a title to the car-never got one when I bought the car-it wasn't required for a car over 10 years old in Ct. and I never registered it,used a repair plate when I drove it.Car is sold as is (it's a 52 year old car) with a Ct.bill of sale.Buyer is responsible for pickup/shipping.
