Pontiac Firebird 1977 Description
We are relisting this car with a buy it now, best offer option. This auction is for a 1977 Pontiac Firebird Formula which is in need of restoration both inside and out with repairs to the engine and transmission also. We purchased the car from Oregon in 2009 with the intention of doing just that but life has just not allowed us the ability so we are selling it. The car was driven 500 miles from Oregon and it is an original Oregon car with a Pontiac 400 motor. Because California cars in 1977 had the Oldsmobile 403, we had to make this one able to pass current smog. We were required to take it to the California Highway Patrol prior to registering it and the engine was found to have numbers matching the VIN. We began pulling the interior of the car apart for restoration and found the build sheet under the seat along with an L shape cut out in the foam indicating the car has a story that we may never know. We had it registered and able to drive until 2013 when we found a problem with an engine cylinder and could not smog it. Without the resources to fix the problem, we then put the car on non-op and it has remained there since. The engine and transmission need repairs, the transmission is leaking.
We contacted the Pontiac Historical Society and purchased the information they had on the original sale of the car, otherwise we have no additional history. The person we purchased the car from could not tell us anything either. There is body damage and the driver door is not original and also the wrong year. We found a driver door from a 1976 at a local junk yard but we have not installed it. There was no head liner and someone began changing out things on the dashboard to include the gauges. The gas gauge does not work but it looks to be in the wrong location. They also look to have possibly changed the odometer because there was paperwork for tires with different mileage so we do not know the exact mileage on the car.
This car needs restoration top to bottom but there are not many left that still have the build sheet. I put a couple pictures of the car that we have from the original purchase before we started taking it apart. We have all the parts that were removed and we purchased a few things like the correct gauges, a center console, a map light, and a rosewood dash. Our intention was to keep it as stock as possible. We would be happy to provide any information we can.
The auction is local pickup. We will work with you if you want it shipped but the cost would be yours. There is no warranty, the car is sold "as is". We do recommend you satisfy yourself to the condition of the car, again, it needs restoration and has body damage and is need of engine and transmission repairs. Ask any questions prior to bidding.
There is a $500.00 deposit within 24 hours of winning the auction with the remaining due within 3 days.
