Pontiac Firebird 1969 Description

Featured here is a great project car and there is no reserve on the auction. This car has a very solid shell and it appears to be very complete it does not run or drive at this time but with some TLC could be up and running for some fun summer cruising and be a fun driver. Seems very complete but as they say the "devil is in the detail" and I fear most of the bolts needed to assemble this car are missing or in a big old box of miscellaneous bolts that does come with the car but not sure how complete it is. (People really need to bag and tag things when they disassemble them!) It has had a lot of restoration work done on it but it stalled out when the owner fell on hard times in the 80's while in the midst of the restoration and never recovered. So 35 years later here the car sits waiting for someone to reassemble her.

Finish -- Grade B-/C+:35 year oldpaint job overall shines and lusters nice but I found some dirt in a few spots.

Body -- Grade B: Very nice solid body. Front driver's fender has some filler in the bottom of it and it is bubbling. Solid floors with some rust at the front of the passenger and driver's floor (see the photos). Trunk is solid with some surface rust. Passenger rear quarter has been patched and both rear quarters have hade the Firebird side marker lights filled in.

Frame -- Grade A-: Some scale but solid with no rust or damage. Frame is straight and no sign of any accident. damage

Bumpers - Grade F/A: Rear bumper has been stripped of chrome and looks to be under repair front bumper is an original and re-chromed

Bright work – GradeF : Some of the window trim appears to be missing still going through the parts to catalog all window channels for weatherstrip is present.

Glass Grade B+ : All original glass in very good condition and has had after market tinting added. Side glass is out of the car. Front windshield has a crack in it. All weatherstrip rubber and fuzzies are missing/removed for repainting.

Interior D: Original interior is stained with mildew should scrub up though no rips in the original upholstery. Door and rear panels in similar condition. I think you could dye these and they would look very nice. Dash is dirty and will need some cleaning and restoration. Gauge bezel/dash carriar no breaks in radio opening. No radio but has the factory clock and factory console and floor shifter.

Wheels GradeC- : Miss match of Crager Aluminum Mags (15 X 8) out back and Crager Chrome Centerline style rims with surface rust. A little clean up these wheels have a cool 70's/80's street racer feel.

Tires Grade C- : Early bias ply tires no weather checking excellent tread holds air rolls no idea on the age. Suspension Grade OK: Visual check is complete with no signs of wear or damage looks to have been restored.

Exhaust Grade OK:Four tube headers feed into a dual exhaust with H-pipe and turbo style mufflers

Rear-end Grade OK: No leaks appears factory unknown gear

Ignition Grade Not OK: Factory original points set up comes with era correct distributor not installed. No wires or coil

Air Conditioning/Heater Grade D: Factory A/C car no underhood parts condenser receiver dryer compressor etc. Under dash appears complete with all duct work.I think in the long run a Vintage Air A/C System is the quick fix here or even block it all off and go street racer style.

Transmission Grade Unknown:Pontiac 400 Turbo-hydramatic said to have been rebuilt but I know nothing about it but appears to have a B&M torque convertor in it. Comeswith factory original shifter and linkage and console. No leaks fluid looks very clean. Brakes Grade Unknown: Power Brakes with drums all around. Untested unknown condition. Pedal is mushy

Engine Grade A: I know very little about the engine other then what is on the outside. Stamped DA with a 1969 date code so it is a 400 out of a 1969 Pontiac "B" body heads are 1967 670 Ram Air Heads andthe block istopped with a vintage Edelbrock PB-4 aluminum intake. Engine does spin. I found a points style distributor (not installed) a starter to use as a core for rebuild. Has all the correct pulleys and P/S pump and brackets. No carburetor found. engine is sealed up from the elements. I know nothing about the camshaft or in work done on the inside said to have been fully rebuilt in the 80's and never started. Equipped with 4 tube headers

Summary:

This is a fairly complete car but will have some missing parts like a armrest door handles etc. mostly detail items. Very solid car that is a great base for a restoration orhot rod project.I think you could have this car up and running as is and have a fun cruiser on a budget and then work on it as you drive it. You may have to buy some bolt kits and a few trim pieces here and there but the big stuff is there. Could be a very fun project to get running and cruise around! As it sits it has a very 70's/80's street racer vibe.
