Pontiac Firebird 1979 Description

Up for auction is a 1979 Formula Firebird Survivor with 95% of it's original parts including paint drivetrain interior etc. It' been in the second owners family since 80 or 81 where the mother drove it until she passed away in the early 2000's the husband took care of it until he died in 2008 in which time the son parked it out back behind his shop where it sat for 8 years until it was rescued to live another day. I've been restoring cars for over 20 years and this is the most rust free car I have ever seen no rust anywhere the pictures will speak for themselves. The original paint was buffed to bring back some shine and looks very presentable.

Drivetrain: All numbers are matching nothing has been out of this car engine tranny rear all f41 suspension pieces seem original. The car purrs like a kitten and still has a lot of get up and go no smoking or anything like that. Changed spark plug wires battery and fuel filter and the thing fired right up and runs great. Transmission pan was pulled(super clean) filter pan gasket and tranny fluid changed and it shifts and drives perfectly. Brakes were flushed and a new master cylinder installed brakes work great. A/C still is holding Freon tapped purge valve with a screwdriver and got squirted with Freon so I know it is still holding pressure problem blower motor does not work to test how cold. Will include a can of r12 with the purchase these are impossible to find and cost $200.00plus if you can find one. Radiator smog and emissions equipment carburetor everything original to the car is there.

Interior: Interior is all original to the day it rolled off the assembly line. Rear seats are in almost new condition because they were saved by the rear louvers along with package tray and original speakers and grills. Rear side panels have the normal second gen Camaro and Firebird gouges and flaking on them. Front seats are in good condition with NO rips or tears but have been faded by the sun. Dash is in perfect condition with no cracks or repairs almost looks new. All lights wipers horn gauges work. Clock does not work. Car came with the AM/FM 8 track CB radio option. It all still works 8 track plays like it's brand new even the CB still works. Power antenna cycles up and down but the antenna is bent a little so I didn't want to take a chance of breaking it so I unplugged the antenna motor so it would stop trying to go up and down. Carpet is also original and has a date of 10/28/78 on it car was built 11/78. Headliner is one the nicest I've seen and looks new. Door panels have no rips or tears just some fading on the very tops.

Body: As stated all original paint on this car with NO RUST. You can look at the interior pictures and see it looks like it just rolled down the assembly line yesterday and got painted. Underside still has the factory black paint on it. Fenders hood doors quarters trunk trunk lid and roof have no rust or rot. Hood has some raised areas on the drivers side hood hinge area from them not being properly oiled. I pushed it down as much as I could but if you ever wanted to paint the car you could hammer and dolly it straight without much effort. Passenger quarter panel below the marker light looks like it rubbed up against something and created a dent. No paint was lost but if you ever painted it a good body man could pull it out without any cutting. It's low on the car and you have to look to see it's in one of the pictures.

Remember this is 37 year old paint and for it's age is really in good condition. This is the kind of car you can drive in a parking lot and not be worried about leaving it. It has the normal dings and scratches all over it. If you're into survivor cars and appreciate them for what they are this is the car for you. If you like perfect paint and like to nit pick every paint job you see at a car show please look elsewhere. Remember this car is starting at $3500.00.This car will pass inspection so you can daily drive it and mess around with it while you do.

Thanks forlooking
