Pontiac Other 1939 Description
This is a VERY RARE 1939 Pontiac Deluxe purchased new by my cousins father in law, e drove the car as a Sunday driver for approximately 10 years and eventually parked it in his garage under a tarp for approximately 50 years.In the 90's he gave the car to his son in law ( my cousin) as he had hounded him for years to buy the car from him. My cousin having restored other cars in the past started a 5 year restoration on the car.
The condition of the car wasn't too bad but father time had taken its toll on some of the panels on the car that had to be patched but ALL of the original sheet metal was retained, ven the running boards.The interior had to be replaced down to the springs (replaced with vinyl) . The steering wheel and all of the knobs had all of the plastic replaced. The chrome was all redone, ost of it show quality but the grille was in rough shape but was repaired and re plated to driver quality, 've done my best to show it in the pictures. The rest of the chrome and trim is in good to excellent condition.The Car was repainted but not the original color. The car was completed in 2004, nd my cousin enjoyed driving it to work and to the local car shows where it won several awards. Unfortunately he passed in 2008 and the car has been in storage since then.
The good and the bad;
Good: This car is very rare. The car TRULY is one family owned and the mileage is accurate @ 58756.When we pulled the car from storage we put fresh gasoline in the car (had been drained to store), ut a fresh battery in itand the car started on the secondrevolution ! I drove the car down the road and it rode straight and true, ERO play in the front end and it accelerated and idled beautifully. It truly is a joy to drive. All rubber is virtually new, he top is flawless and very well done. The interior, ough not original cloth, nbsp;is very nicely done and hasno tears or fading at all. I've attached a copy of the original title to the car.Originaltitle willsold with the car.
Bad: there are some areas on the car where some bubbling is starting to appear,not very visible from ten feet but become apparent with an up close inspection. I've done my best toshow someof it in the pictures. There is a crack in the drivers side windshield panel and the drives door glass has a crack as well. Fortunately both panels are flat clear glass so the repair should be fairly inexpensive. The underside of the car was never restored, hile is mostly cosmetic the purist would probably want to spend time under cleaning it up.
I can truly say we emptied many a diner when he and I would go to lunch in it !
We'veresearched the car and spoke to several people from the AACA who gave us a good indication of what the car is worth and the reserve has been set at a reasonable number below that,considering its history and rarity I think its very fair and should be easily met.You can contact me withquestions and I'll do my best to answer.
