Chevrolet Other 1949 Description
1949 Chevy Carryall / Suburban - Straight six engine - Four speed manual transmission - 16 inch wheels with decent Goodyear tires - Rebuilt carb
This Carryall was running and driving until just this morning. I started it up and it has a noise in the motor, hich I believe is a rod knock. In recent months I have had a lot of fun putting around town in it. It is pretty cool the way it is but if you want a nice one it will need restoring. The body is very straight. I don't see any dings on the roof or sides. There is acrease in the left front fender but it is not very deep. There is a small dent at the rear of the hood on the left side. There is a rust hole between the drivers door and the front fender and bothlower rear corners of the body have been trimmed away due to rust. Patch panels are available for both of these areas and it would be a pretty easy fix. There is a small rust hole in the passenger side floor and the area where the jump seat would mount has been repaired. There are some very small bubbles startingin the lower area between the doors and rear fenders, ut no holes. The tailgate has cracked near the left hinge. The retractable tailgate cables are missing. The upper body appears solid, ith no rust evident on the roof ordrip rails. The tail lights, linkers and brake lights work. The headlights do not. It has an alternator and a 12 volt battery. The previous owner started to rewire it but I would put a harness in it. All the glass is there but somepieces arebubbled. I do not have any other seats besides the one that is in it.
I've gone into great detail listing the imperfections of this Carryall. I don't want the buyer to have any surprises when it arrives. On the plus side this Chevy is an excellent candidate for a complete restoration. The areas that need work can be repaired fairly easily. Despite the issues I've mentioned it really is a pretty solid vehicle and restorable Carryalls are getting harder to find every day.
If you have any questions use the "ask a question" feature in the auction listing and I will reply as soon as I can. Thank you.
On Dec-04-15 at 13:35:38 PST, eller added the following information:I mentioned the motor has a knock. I am not a mechanic. I assume it's a rod knock but I really don't know. It's just noisier than it used to be. The Chevy still runs and can be driven onto a trailer or transport.
