Chevrolet Nova 1968 Description
For sale in our Chicago showroom is this masterfully restored 1968 Chevrolet Nova SS 396. ’68 was a big year for the world; the first 747 Jumbo-Jet was flown, Apollo 8 first orbited the moon, and the Nova received the 396 big block V8. In 1968, there were three available options for the 396: the “entry†L-35 producing a rated 325 horsepower, the monstrous L-78 producing a rate 375 horsepower, and the leas common of the bunch being the L-34, producing a rated 350 horsepower. It is estimated only 234 L-34 optioned Novas were built in 1968, with this fine example being one of them. Making this even more rare is the factory Muncie 4-speed manual transmission.
This is a show-quality Nova that has had every nut, bolt, screw, and fastener gone through. During the restoration, any original parts worth keeping were reconditioned and reused (including the original disc brakes), while anything else was replaced with either NOS units where available, or high-quality period correct parts. The Fathom Blue paint pops in the sunlight and the chrome shines better than new. The black vinyl interior is straight out of a sales brochure and has all the ’68 specific pieces only found in that year. Every aspect of the car has been meticulously detailed to bring out the most correct representation of an era long past, but not yet forgotten.
This vintage boulevard bruiser was a wolf in sheep’s clothing, if there ever was. Only a select few knew the check boxes needed on the order sheet to create such a brute. Options include AM Radio, Bias Ply Tires, Hub Caps, Power Brakes, Power Steering, Rally Wheels, Seat Belts, Vinyl Interior, and a Numbers Matching Drivetrain.
